The thing is the dark side will never go away. It will always be there on the edge of force user's perceptions. It can recede and go dormant for centuries until the next person draws too much from it and starts the entire cycle again. The galaxy is doomed to eternally war over the force as the EU shows us.
Maybe only way to end the constant cycle of war is to find a way to unify jedi and sith together. Good luck with that.
