Bellwright probably has the best eating system of any open world surivival crafter. It has 3 slots for foods, food give you different health/stamina increases but also different health/stamina regens. So cooked meat might give you more health and smoked might be better for stamina. But most foods also have secondary buffs that are active the whole time, some will increase exp gain, some increase crafting speed or lower the rate you get hungry again.
You can ignore these buffs if you like and just eat what seems good you wont really be missing out on anything, but if you want to autistically min/max you can do.
And villagers you recruit also benefit in the same way.
