I remain agnostic. I don't believe in any one particular religion and have no reason to believe Christianity over African folklore or Islamism or Judaism or anything like that, but it also feels like when we go "Heh, when you die it's just nothing, same as it was before you were born" or "You just reincarnate into something else eventually" are all answers that are too simple and made to comfort us in fake knowledge. Is the universe ever really that simple? There's always some shocking revelation right around the corner and there is still so much we don't understand and will never understand within our lifetimes. It just feels like hubris to believe that it's finally in early 2000s where we have all the answers and safe assumptions figured out about afterlife and the existence of any deities or deity-like entities. Even if Humanity were a continuous species that kept building on its previous knowledge, I don't think we'd have all the answers by 500000000 AD.
Something that bothers me is the idea that the universe is cyclical and after we die we just wake up and relieve the same life again. Forever. I mean, is that bad? Is that good? I guess I can keep enjoying my favorite vidya for the first time, but there is something uncomforting about that thought. I can't tell if it's more or less comforting than the idea of the void.
