"Genocide" Accusations:
The scale of death, destruction, and suffering has led South Africa (and others) to bring a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) alleging violations of the Genocide Convention.
The ICJ found it "plausible" that Israel's acts could fall under the Genocide Convention and issued binding provisional orders demanding Israel prevent genocidal acts, punish incitement, and allow humanitarian aid. A final ruling on genocide may take years.
Whether the term "genocide" applies legally is still pending, but the humanitarian catastrophe driving the accusation is undeniable and documented by the UN, WHO, and major aid agencies (famine conditions, collapse of healthcare, mass displacement).
The Narrative Shift Online: As the military reality shifted (less close combat footage, more destruction), the dominant online narrative also shifted:
Focus on Civilian Suffering: Graphic content shifted overwhelmingly to depicting the immense civilian toll: dead and injured children, destroyed hospitals and homes, desperate hunger. This fueled the "genocide" narrative internationally.
Diminishing Hamas Combat Footage: The volume and impact of new Hamas combat videos significantly decreased. Reasons include:
Loss of command/control hindering coordinated media production.
Destruction of infrastructure (power, internet) making uploads harder.
Fewer large-scale ambushes producing dramatic footage.
IDF counter-measures (jamming, operational security).
Increased Scrutiny & Content Moderation: While problematic content persists, platforms faced immense pressure to moderate graphic and violent content, including hostage videos and explicit combat footage from all sides, though enforcement remains inconsistent.
