I think this is a near-constant issue with millennial and Gen Z writing. An entire species- whether it's for sci-fi or a fantasy setting- has to be an allegory for [contemporary social issue] rather than something nuanced. I like it when aliens act like people with their own distinct identities and ideals, no matter how alien they are to humanity. That's what makes aliens cool, as it allows us to have outward perspective into another intelligent species rather than screaming into an echo-chamber made up of only humans and our human problems.
