And earliest birth range for Gen Alpha is 2010, the oldest of them are 15. What a horrific era of entertainment they faced once they were old enough to fully process things.

Trust me, you do not want the suits to get their grubby hands on things you enjoy. I can't imagine how badly they'd fuck up a ME movie or tv series. It'd probably look like that netflix cowboy bebop series, the quarians would be some kind of covid allegory and have off-model designs, turians would be fully CGI and only show up for less than a minute of screentime, and 99% of the adapted plot would be about humans vs humans in some asinine "cereberus actually created the reapers" plotline with the moral being "capitalism bad".

Again, trust me, you do not want the things you enjoy being picked up by mainstream media.

It's not like Fantasy is doing much better, and I'm sure once it's clear that's been bungled to oblivion they'll blame the genre and/or GoT-style of such stories and there will be a drought of that for decades. And the people responsible will move on to...

It's s𝘒fe in a way that Elio is not. You may or may not believe in the culture war depending on your ideological persuasion, but parents of small children absolutely do and the vast majority of them don't want their kids consuming subversive media. Even without the fully automatic luxury space communist utopia set dressing, Elio celebrates children running away from home and that's a non-starter for the kinds of parents that'll take their kids to a movie, full stop.

Meanwhile, Lilo & Stitch is Lilo & Stitch, minus one campy1940s drag joke and plus one shitty self-indulgent girlboss ending. It's harmless fun and parents can take their kids to it without worrying they'll try to emulate antisocial behavior.

It's why Inside Out 2 made a billion dollars and Strange World and Lightyear bombed harder than a B2 in Iran.

>Star Trek was always shit, though

The concept of the series as expressed by the introductory speech of TOS/TNG was never really shit; the shit part was everything surrounding it on the production side. ("Alien? Paint em green!") The only actual problem with the concept is how incredibly easy it is to betray the purpose of. You're basically trying to fold the thinnest gold leaf foil into an origami sphere that involves inflating the sphere as the last step.
However, SOMEONE inevitably acts in a manner that causes the concept to rip itself apart at some point in the process, even at the last step... It's usually the money people, too. Which is fucking hilarious because "Cashless society" was one of the main gimmicks of the setting that was NEVER elaborated on.

> Financiers: "GOOD LORD WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THERE?!"
> Writers: A story that has a cashless society!
> "A story with a cashless society? At this point in time, with this stage of technical development, in this era of geopolitical tension, localized entirely within a single work of fiction?"

Well I mean there are the Turians so at least there is that. At least they aren't quarian or asari who are just differently colored humans with maybe some odd number of digits.
Then again I'm not Gen Z and I think part of it is we're counting the hit's and forgetting the misses.
Like yes, there was H.R. Giger's wonderfully weird aliens and whatnot, but then there was also Star Trek with all of it's budget plastic forehead human "aliens".
For as much as someone is lamenting the designs of Disney's Elio aliens, which I haven't been paying too much attention too because I have a bit too much going on right now recently to care. I can guarantee there is going to be some kid out there that is going to "love" one of the aliens enough to be welcomed into /xeno/.
Yeah the streaming and online marketplace has made things things an absolute mess for discoverability or xeno poles as it where, and that they basically nixed both Gantu and Grand Councilwoman from the movie certainly doesn't help matters. But I can guarantee there even 'crummy' media is worth more than it's weight in gold. And we've still got tangential media like streamers playing Voices of the Void - so there is that...
Like I never really cared much for the Star Trek/Star Wars stuff because of all the 'human' elements but Animorphs definitely served as a gateway with all of it's alien species.

But if it's a 1v1 between individuals, it depends on the class of pfhor- since they have multiple combat types. I reckon a sangheili could take on a base fighter, trooper, and enforcer. They would have difficulty against the hunters and and juggernaut. But since pfhor units are vulnerable to energy weapons, I imagine the same principle applies like it does in halo. In which case, covenant weapons are purpose built for dealing with enemies such as this, and shall be a fine addition to the great journey.

I think this is a near-constant issue with millennial and Gen Z writing. An entire species- whether it's for sci-fi or a fantasy setting- has to be an allegory for [contemporary social issue] rather than something nuanced. I like it when aliens act like people with their own distinct identities and ideals, no matter how alien they are to humanity. That's what makes aliens cool, as it allows us to have outward perspective into another intelligent species rather than screaming into an echo-chamber made up of only humans and our human problems.

Teng here, got a viper pic done
ThisIsAReal, idk if you're still lurking here but finally got around to reading latest VNFF chapter. my thoughts/feedback:

Overall escalating the situation and adding this tension good at this point in the story I think.
Showing the tension between races even among the criminal element is a good touch.

I think during the stake out you pingpong'd the tone too much. I think I've seen this pitfall a lot in romance stuff where writers may feel a need to always inject the romantic undertones even when its not necessary. Its a tense situation and the characters realize they are in possible mortal peril, These bits feel out of place:
>It was strange seeing her plan something out like this. I'd never seen much of this strategic side of her, but I liked it.
>tay going from panicking to wanting to make out
>The admission about file snooping
>"Crawl? What is this? Boot camp?!"
This badly diffuses the tension. Saving all this for the catharsis after surviving it is better

Going off that: the scene after where they're emotionally raw and exposing their feelings is good! I do think painting the scene a little more when they are together talking things out would be good. You've got a little but I think a bit more would go a long way in having it feel more alive. Emotions are heightened, all sorts of little details stick out in those moments; color of the room or the light, the feel or smell of things. idk what you would want to go with there, but something.

It's one of those things where yeah its kinda dumb for man brain to distract itself from a major problem in the heat of things over an unrelated feeling but at the same time if you save it all for later it could fuck up the pacing. Well, maybe one of those super secret gov/corp science nerds will be paired up with a bug-alien scientist for normal boring psychology research work, but then accidentally start really liking each other and have lots of abdomen-quivering inter-species sex!

We won't directly gain from it, but it would certainly give alien boning a flying start!

If you're trying to use the word "reptile" to describe an alien, while being at all rational and scientific, you're already failing to understand what a reptile is.

Aliens can be "reptilian" or "reptile-like", but they cannot actually be reptiles. Reptiles are a class of vertibrates that evolved on Earth, and "reptile" is a description of evolutionary lineage, not quantitative of physiological descriptors. It's a reptile because it's descended from reptiles, not because of the features of its body.
The traits we associate with reptiles are a product of their common ancestors, and that's it, something that diverges from other reptiles, even on Earth, no matter how weird it is, is still a reptile.

People make this same stupid mistake with Dragons all the time.

And thus an alien with 'reptile-like' qualities that are the product of a completely different tree of life on another planet can have whatever other "un-lizardlike" characteristics that the writers want, and be just as plausible as anything else, like having opposable thumbs, an erect posture, split mandibles, or anything else that the fiction decides they should have.
Both because what a reptile is is more flexible than you think, and because aliens do not have to conform to our Earth-based evolutionary preconceptions.

Its okay but the Snekguy universe is getting a little crowded. It aint like Mass Effect where you got a whole galaxy to work with. All his stories take place within like 100Ly of each other and there are like 7 sapient species now, and at least three of which have cracked FTL travel. Its getting a little silly. He needs to expand the scale dramatically.

He could stand to do some more non humanoids too if he's going to be adding more species.

They're really not. Super Earth is giga-xenophobic. That's the whole point of the games, they're constantly making enemies because Super Earth are warmongering dipshits. I remember one of them propaganda news broadcasts which casually stated that Super Earth found a planet with primitive aliens on it and immediately exterminated them all. Not "liberated", it straight up just said exterminated.

That got a chuckle out of me. Thank you, Anon. I think having an leet wife would be difficult. Not so much as her per say. The faction itself or more likely its sister organization, ONI. If ONI doesn't kidnap you or kill you that is, your only real issues would be other humans who are most likely xenophobic. Given of what all had happened to them, of course. That or another anon with their space raptor wife choosing you as their next raiding target. Should the Banished find you, you're either going to die or be enslaved. If you are lucky enough, both you & your wife could be 'hired' by them.

I think the best faction for heretical coupling would be the Farsight Enclave. They are objectively the only "good guy" faction out there. The primary issue is that they're so small compared to everyone else, you would always be in a constant threat of total annihilation. Granted. You do have a few advantages with them, they have the tech & their defense is superb. That's it. Out side of them, all you really have is that if you were to be a Rogue Trader- you MIGHT get yourself some xeno puss. But that is only IF you provide the Imperium of Man in what it wants & more. If you fail, you are as good as dead.
