>Why did they die out?
In all likelihood we probably fucked them out of existence via constant waves of replacement migration, moreso than meeting a violent end.
Neanderthals were extremely territorial, didn't like to travel, and basically hated to interact with foreign groups. There were two neanderthal communities living at opposite ends of a mountain valley in Swizterland, they literally lived like 25-30km away from one another, and in 5,000 years they hadn't interbred even once. Humans simply fuck more, we fuck more than any other hominid, and we're constantly on the move finding other people to fuck.
