i dont think we've seen any true video game masterpieces yet, at least when compared to other art forms. we've had a bunch of influential game that has taken big steps towards getting there. but video games as an art form is still riddled with retarded writing, awkwardly paced story telling, janky animations, questionable game design. there's still a huge disconnect between the story telling parts and the gameplay parts for example, and they're filled with superfluous content. i could confidently say there are flawless movies. we've been making them for far longer, for thousands of years if you include theater, and they're smaller in scope making it easier to control every variable. but there are no flawless video games, due to how new they are and how much more complex they are to make. i think when we start seeing the true gaming masterpieces, whenever that may be, we're going to look back at the stuff we have today as influential, but in the same vein as the sea of old forgotten silent films that nobody gives a shit about today.
