I feel like "favourite Touhous" can be a roulette wheel, sometimes there's some reasoning why this random character is among your favorites (for example I like Lily White entirely because my birthday lines up with the first day of Spring) but most of the time its just "I like their character concept that was vaguely outlined" or their design. This case its the character concept of small "feral god" (term used in SoPM) along with the whole leaf painter thing. I find it pretty fascinating where the line is drawn between gods and youkai and how gods can become youkai and youkai can become gods both in real Japanese mythology and also in Touhou (funny thing is Kogasa used to be a god, all tsukumogami are. They're the abandoned gods turned into youkai, in other words should Reimu get desperate enough she could snag Kogasa or Medicine and make one of them her god)

I'm using perverse that's a great term for that version of Gensokyo you keep in your head. You ever notice how Touhou fans will have like 2-5 different versions of Gensokyo in their head and will just sometimes trade ideas from one universe to another when talking?
