I am the one doing the posting sir

I'm finally starting to realize how much of a retard I am for ever thinking game dev was going to free me from wageslavery. The estimated net revenue for a $10 game with 1,000 reviews is barely over $100,000. Before taxes too. That's 35 THOUSAND sales by the way. I consider $100k to be the absolute bare minimum amount needed to actually feel like I've "made it", and even then it still isn't enough to buy a house in my country (third worlders need not reply). I'd still be a rentoid.
So even after I've managed to strike gold and make a game people actually like, I'd need to immediately start working on my next game, because that $100k is going to dry up real quick unless I want to go back to wageslaving. But would I really have enough of a fanbase at that modest level of success to guarantee my next game will provide me with anything more than a few thousand dollars? Can I bank on lightning striking twice? I don't think so.
Feel free to laugh at my stupidity for not just thinking I had a chance at making it, but making it to the level that I'd achieve true freedom. I don't even want to be mega wealthy, I just want to be able to quit my job with some feeling of security to keep making games.
