To me, anyone that doesn't care about what steel their knife is made of probably doesn't use their knife much because if they did they'd find out that some blades dull quickly. I have a Benchmade Ambush made of AUS-8 that can't handle cardboard cutting for more than a few minutes and that's the knife that made me care about edge retention.
