I agree with you. I think F1 had such a hold over my attention when I was younger because of all of the glitz and glamour. Now that I am older I can see that, while yes, that stuff is cool it has nothing to do with good racing. But ngl I am still a jelly of Alesi not only getting to drive a V12 Ferrari, but also having the best wife of any F1 driver.

So very similar to pilots keeping any health issues quiet to avoid losing their wings. iirc Piquet said something similar after a crash he had and was more or less there for the last few years because people were still willing to pay him.
