For what it's worth though a lot of American lap records are from 1998-1999 specifically because those are the years Firestone brought the best tires possible to kwab Goodyear and once they became a single supplier they stopped trying.

Spoiler: the racing was not good
>>149336911Everybody gets butthurt about Zak Brown saying he wants less teams and the way in which he wants it is indeed pretty fucking retarded, but the reality is the easiest thing they could do to keep Honda is raise the super discount engine lease cap and organically lose a couple or few broke teams and save the Honda millions and millions of dollars subsidizing the teams. Like right now ostensibly they lose ~$11.5m on engine leases (it's more than that because they give some away for free but that's another thing), if they raised the price $500k and went back down to 22 or 23 car fields that would bring that down to only $4.5m.
Those free engines they give to guys like Dixon because they want to win do cost them an extra $2.5m which is more or less why being a single supplier becomes financially viable because everyone is paying so that makes up for around 3 cars worth of operating loss before you get into reduced R&D and lower specs.

>>149339464That's because formula 1 is a joke from a driver perspective. Porsche cup or v8 supercars or old btcc/dtm or something would be a better test of purely driver talent. That's why verstappen could essentially go straight from karts to f1 because the talent pool is incredibly low in contemporary professional racing, especially so in the "ladder" series.
well, for a start, organizers fight a fucking lot and there are a trillion splits every year, so yeah, you have to follow this shit to know what the fuck is going on at any moment
for example, this very year we had:
>Top Race Junior (Codasur (FIA)) turning into TC Junior (ACTC)
>ACTC being the regulatory body of Turismo Nacional instead of the APAC
>the creation of Turismo Carretera 2000 (TCRR2000) as a consequence of a split inside TC2000 (I don't see it a future, people didn't like it, btw ACTC and the Mazzacane family are the great satan here)
in argentina you have 4 main categories, as of this year 2025:
>Turismo Carretera (TC)
>Turismo Nacional (TN)
>Turismo Competición 2000 (TC2000)
>Top Race V6
>Turismo Carretera (TC)
the most popular by a mile, organized by the ACTC, these are heavily modified stock cars, here you have an ACTC path that goes like:
>TC
>TC Pista (feeder series to TC)
>TC Mouras (regional-level series)
>TC Pista Mouras (entry-level series)
>TC Junior (new training series)
AND parallel to that:
>TC Pick Up (feeder series to TC)
>TC Pista Pick Up
>Turismo Nacional (TN APAT)
these are barely modified stock cars produced in argentina and then in argentina and brazil, it's divided in two classes:
>Clase 3 (C-segment cars)
>Clase 2 (B-segment cars)
then you could say this other category is a feeder series but you can get confused because it's usually televised together with TC2000:
>Turismo Pista Clase 3
>Clase 2
>Clase1
>Turismo Competición 2000 (TC2000)
TC2000) / Super TC2000 (unified like 4 years ago under the TC2000 brand), organized by ACA (FIA), these are touring cars, here you only have
>TC2000
>>149342662that .webm related it's just one of the hundred regional categories, it's something called Capicor turismo, clase 3 in this case
there is something called Argentine Triple Corona where a driver has to win these 3 championships (TC, TN and TC2000)
>Top Race V6organized by Codasur (FIA), these resemble D-segment cars on the outside, this category was created so the drivers of other categories could race something on their free weekends
>Top Race Series (feeder series)then you have open wheel series like:
>Fórmula Nacional (aka Fórmula Renault 2.0),you could go up to Turismo Nacional from here
>Fórmula 3 Metropolitana (junior series)it can get considered parallel to TC Mouras or TC Pista Mouras if you will
>Fórmula 2 Argentinaby ACTC, it's a split from Fórmula Nacional (every split ends with a category in ACTC if you pay attention)

It was a fuckin hot one today, guys. We got there not long after Practice 2 started, walked the pits, saw Defransceco, Rahal, Robb, Daly, Ricardo Juncos, Chip Ganassi, and Veekay in pits. Daly looked fucking rough when he got out, they're going to be dying tomorrow. Then we watched tech inspection until there were no more cars, went to the gift shop and got an event T-shirt and an RA puzzle. After we went to Parker John's and had a sconnie potato and chicken sandwich with a root beer float, then we walked along the outside of turn 5, eventually ending up at Canada Corner for qualifying. The scanner reception sucks on the backside of the track. We headed back to the car during the Fast 12 and left.

>>149360204>>149360213https://www.dailysportscar.com/2024/11/06/lamborghini-to-exit-fia-wec.html
>This comes after weeks of non-committal responses from all concerned, and more recently, a clear increase in the level of irritation felt by the Iron Lynx race team at the continued uncertainty.>The brand’s exit from the LMGT3 ranks is a somewhat newer revelation and marks a significant division between the manufacturer and its 2024 WEC service supplier Iron Lynx (branding a Prema technical support crew).https://www.dailysportscar.com/2025/01/30/lamborghini-working-towards-a-customer-focused-future-for-the-sc63.html
>Lamborghini “evaluated” stepping away from both championships entirely this year to focus on development>But in the end, despite the restrictions on testing that come with running a race programme, the decision was made to keep the IMSA effort going due to “a commitment to IMSA and (President) John Doonan”, and the importance of the US market (it’s Lamborghini’s biggest).>Iron Lynx is also out of the picture, following a split “due to misalignment on certain topics” with the Italian sportscar brand over the off-season and Riley is in for the year, as an operational partner to assist the development work and racing.>So what’s the long-term vision for the car? Lamborghini has opted to use 2025 as a chance to regroup, bring the car’s development in-house and push to make it competitive in the future.>In fact, it’s not planning to race the car as a factory at all beyond 2025.>“If we go in the next step to enlarge the programme it only makes sense if the car is sorted out and if the performance of the car is on the level that our GT3 cars. Then we can give the car to customers.>“But if we close the performance gap and can give it to customer teams we are open to new teams operating with our support. I wouldn’t say (Lamborghini is searching for) a replacement for Iron Lynx and the Iron Lynx situation.”

>>149360782I think sports car racing as a product just has a natural appeal to the wider audience, especially because of recognisable brands and the exoticness of it being such a niche sport
It's just that they've not really known how to market it for the longest time and there's been a big influx of new fans when they started streaming races free on Youtube coupled with games like ACC, LMU and GT bringing modern sports cars and sports car racing into the general consciousness of younger people these days

>>149360826As someone mentioned several threads ago. I think motorsport relieves a bit of a rennaissance. Motorsport couldn't be a lot healthier than it is now, despite all that BoP bullshit, GT3series #1234 and whatever, and with proper marketing and sim-racing the audience is broader than ever. It is also at a healthy size, not to big to pander to normies entirely, but also not to small to disappear in irrelevance. If it manages to stay around this level, it would be really the best for motorsport.

>>149360942Ralf is very unfairly compared to his brother. Looking at Ralf without looking at his last name he would be seen as a Coulthard, a Barrichelo, or any other F1 driver that won a few races and was a somewhat regular on the podium. I honestly wish F1 drivers saw earlier on in their careers not everyone can get into like 1 of 2 seats on the grid that will actually get you remembered or seen as 'good' and just move on to another series where you might actually see success. I have come to see F1 as blight on motor racing now that I am a little older.
>>149364023Yo that Ye sponsorship is really paying off.
>>149364613F1 is and has for a long time been a travelling business circus where millionaires and billionaires meet to make deals and ignore a race. It is what it is. The formula is so cucked that it's hard to give a shit about the engineering aspect as well even if it is very impressive cars pace wise there's barely any room for creative new ideas anymore.
The best part about F1 is that it acts as a nice filter for all the people that don't actually like racing and just like drivers with celeb like status and all that surrounds it. That's why you don't get porn spam up and down every race thread for the endurance events and all that shit it's great.
>>149364613He got really fucked up by the Indy crash in 2004, he basically wasn't the same driver since.
Everyone keeps going on and on about Indy 2005 and the diamond repave and tire change ban and what not but Michelin had some horrific tire blowouts all throughout 2004. The fact that he then had the same exact crash a year later and only that was enough for the FIA to consider doing something should be the bigger story of that weekend, but it isn't because it's viewed in such a vacuum.

Update: Monster energy girls are in pit lane. Drivers are starting to line up for introductions.
>>149364613I will be curious about the boon Ralf will write about his career (everyone does that so it will come)
BC I honestly think he did not recover from the indy crash fully. He seemed way less competitive after the crash compared to before (and I honestly don't think Michael only said about Ralf that he is at least as talented as him to make his progress easier as more so in the 90s when money in the sport was multiple times higher than now , frequently shootouts between drivers decided who gets a seat
Similarly to berger who recently admitted he had vision problems after the imola crash but not wanting to risk his career, never spoke about it to his team or anybody
this damage will be easily repaired for the next race
>>149365102yeah, it could even race at Spa24

>>149364691I agree with you. I think F1 had such a hold over my attention when I was younger because of all of the glitz and glamour. Driving for Williams when they had the second fastest car or Toyota when they looked like they were on the way to winning is not settling for a Haas or some shit. If Jenson Button fucked off just because he wasn't in a Ferrari he would be remembered for being a shitty sports car driver instead of a champion.

ALMS was arguably the most premiere enduro series at the time. Granted if you are someone who thinks like Ricciardo who thinks racing anywhere outside of F1 would hurt your 'brand' then this all means nothing to you.

You might not like the hollywoodification or the exclusivity for example (and neither I) but to think any proper track driver would turn down an F1 offer (given enough preparation ofc) is plain delusional kek

>>149369562> won't try to make you believe + it's not the top of the pyramid as a championship. Singular events (LM24 and Indy500) can have similar prestige but they are singular events and their respective championships are below in prestige and recognition

>>149367938>Yeah, once you make ~$10mil you really don't need to worry about moneyDavid Schumacher would not be a racing driver if Ralf Schumacher made $10m and then decided he was going to retire and race go karts for the rest of his career to prove how badass he is to schizoids. >>149365036>>149365348it is worth noting both Berger and Piquet had their crashes at the same spot (Tamburello) in 1989 and 1987 respectively. it's crazy how they both went on with their careers, the latter won the championship that year (partially because of Mansell choking) and both got a few more race wins (although Piquet himself discounts his as "inherited").
Alboreto also suffered a horrific accident there in 1991 but IIRC he did not have any long-term health complications as a result of it.

SVG's spin should not have brought out a caution, there was no one around him and he had it going again. That trapped a lot of cars in the back and gifted some guys like Blaney with track position. Cost Bread a shot at the win too.
>>149372640How is this still the same payout for the All Star race? Back when that picture was taken, a million bucks was quite a bit of money. Not its enough for a car and a few races.

Round 3 will be extended a best of 3 races. First to WIN automatically advances.

Booth is good, not great, but the pre and post race coverage is so fucking good. Never thought I'd like Corey Lajoie, but Amazon won me over for him. They treated NASCAR with respect and gave it the coverage the top level of stock car racing deserves. None of the broadcast networks will commit this much.

>>149376573>not a fan of having alexander as play-by-playI honestly thought I was the only one. I don't think he's terrible, but he has one schtick. He talks up a move, drops the driver number, then a catchphrase. He does this the entire race, with the same voice over and over. I hate Fox's coverage, but Mike Joy's PBP is so much better. Alexander is better than Rick Allen tho (maybe a controversial take).

-it's a recurring theme in the thread how much less money is in motorsport compared to like 20 years ago and how much harder to climb the ladder.
- You have bunch of gt3 series with overlap between them in drivers,
- you have a gt3proto spec with a hell lot of cost saving measures and fake assumptions without anyone
- Touring car ladder is in dire need of rework for 12 years
- Indyshart is 13 years into the same chassis
- F1 having a revival at the cost of dumbing down the product and lying about itself
- Rallying is far from healthy R1 cars cost half what they used to be in the early 00s yet no privateer can afford it and manufacturers are looking for a 60+ percent cost reduction from 2027, and we had the chance that the number of manufacturers will fall from 2,5 to 1.5 in a year
- While the rallying ladder being still the most affordable, still less people are able to get in compared to the old times
- Your fuckin motorsport authority cant even fund a WRC round itself, has to go to austria and czechia to get help
- Nascar so gone into the hollywoodification/"stick and ball"-ification, the management cant even see real issues
- and the list could be longer
This is what you live through is a bit of an uplift in the downward slope autosport is steadily on since 2005-7.
There were uplifts before, like the mid 10s LMP1 "boom" or wrc's rebuff for a few years from 17 to 19
>>149379008Early WEC is the last thing I can think of that anyone did that wasn't interminably fucking gay, seemingly the last moment in time anyone had any confidence in motorsport to actually be worth a shit instead of cynical crap.
>>149360941literally the only motorsport that has the same amount of relevance as it did 20 years ago is f1 and even that only came back is because it is marketed as the sport for kardashian fans. sports car racing is booming because dentists are footing the bill not because more factory money appeared in the sport

>>149377863At least the Valkyrie and SC63 finished the race and they were positioned really well if that late race caution didn't screw up the pit stops. In cas you didn't know, basically everyone was going to have to make one more stop, but the caution allowed a few cars to fuel save and stay out until the end. Among those cars were the Cadillac, which was leading, the SC63 and the Valkyrie who, as I mentioned above, were both well placed.
