I think Lae'zel becomes a nicer character than Karlach by the end. You just have to endure her being an angry little frog at best and a genuinely unhelpful bitch at worst for a long ass time, by then she's probably going to burn people out long before you get to see her nice side.
Same with Astarion, killed that cunt on my first playthrough, but after I let him stick around on my second run I found out he was actually a cool guy.
