Very very early on it was more grounded in that, but the original creators I believe said it was mostly cause they weren't sure how to come into their own yet, and I believe he said he regrets doing that, as he liked having something more original more.

I think Mirage is pretty cool, but I just like Arabian Fantasy settings a lot.
Unfortunately they disowned a lot of their stuff like that claiming its "racist". Like they think their cards are literally picrel or something.
