WHY
>>717267561How this ever got past testing is beyond me
>>717267842it wasn't a problem and you can clearly see the disgusting shit the meta became after it left. roots, cauldron, midrange, all those decks are now free to roam because you faggots couldn't tolerate good honest aggro

I want things to be their own things.
>>717266636 (OP)I'm not even a magicfag, but man Spiderman and shit like it does NOT work well as a magic setting lol.
I feel bad for the fans of magics original settings. This shit is terrible.
Pretty crazy considering Final Fantasy looked really good. Not that everything needs to be a Fortnite crossover, but still.
>>717266636 (OP)>transform Gwen StacyYeah from a cute ska girl to a disgusting hip hop slop wigger wannabe slag.
>>717268745I'm retarded, I read Gwen Stefani. I wondered why she would be in MTG lol.

>>717267842You don't want that FIRE design, Anon?
>>717269817Yes. It was a very nice tribute to it. There was some actual fans among the design team, and Square-Enix not letting them bastardize anything certainly helped.
The setting being largely fantasy, with magic and shit let itself slide into magics ruleset and theming quite nicely as well.
>>717266636 (OP)>absolutely zero good Spider-Gwen stories>Marvel still shoves her in everything
>>717269817Or Square tard wrangled Hasbro harder than other companies. Probably because they're Nips that don't play Magic, but the Magic: Japan edition.
>>717269817Wait, I haven't been keeping up with recent sets... People actually LIKE the FF slopover? Did they raceswap or troonify any other the characters or was it faithful? How was the art?

>>717270352Hardly. One Piece has its own card game.
>>717270095FF set was pure soul, art was alright but there was a lot of design that showed the set designers were long time fans and they got it.
It also simultaneously had probably the best limited play we've seen in a decade, standard and legacy are a bit more limited though as the set was pretty low power.
>>717270095It sold like fucking crazy, faithful to all the characters, art is mostly good with the chase rares having new art from the OG artists

why ATLA tho?
It's nowhere near as big as spiderman or final fantasy
>>717271182this design is trying way too hard to do way too many things even by custom card standards

Give it only triggered abilities.

This is why I've only ever gotten into Pokemon TCG. I'm sure it's fine if you familiarize yourself with your own deck. But do you really expect me to understand my opponent's cards off the fly, especially when I can barely read his shit upside-down?
I'm not gonna pretend that Pokemon doesn't fuck this up occasionally. But when it comes to shit like Yugioh or MtG, at least 80% of the cards I've seen are really complicated.
>>717276237Probably "harnessing the mcguffin" has some minor drawback on top of all but winning you the game like the meme ring.
>>717276237>>717276417Okay I see that you need to harness it first before the infinity ability is active.
That's really not obvious, it looks like that's just an ability called infinity, because so many Universes Beyond cards (including ones in the Spider-Man set) use the exact format of "flavorful ability name -- actual mechanics".
Also it's literally the only card we've seen so far with the harness keyword.

>>717276407>every card is like a paragraph long of instructionsI understand that honestly. Definitely seems daunting. Its also part of why I won't touch Yu-Gi-Oh.
But I played some games with my friends when the FF set came out, and it actually did make me appreciate the way MtG's card rules play with each other. From my experience, they all did seem pretty explicitly worded, and once you understand a little bit about how it works and interacts with other cards and rules, it makes a lot of other ones click into place as well. At least that was my experience.
>read it upside downI'm sure you could hold it and read if you asked.
Pokemon is neat though in that it has depth within its cards simplicity. But I just don't have much interest in playing it myself.

is tabletop simulator a decent way to play mtg? And if so, are there dedicated lobbies for oldschool mtg without all the gay modern shit that ruined the game starting ~2019 or so?
I don't know anything about MtG but I helped buy a pack of FF ones for my friend and I found out that apparently foils suck since they curl.

>>717270035Maybe only for the designs but you can tell that the set is very heavy on Squaresoft FF so they must have had some freedom
>>717277614No, it triggers whenever one or more Birds hit a player. So it does trigger three times by hitting four players, but if there are first strikers they will hit first during their own damage step, creating their own triggers; these will resolve, then you will have the regular hitters deal damage for their own triggers.
>>717275660Include Murmuring Mystic and other Bird token generators. FF came with a new guy that does that.
You need more card selection; Brainstorm, Ponder. I'd rather have Fact or Fiction, Consult the Star Charts or Dig Through Time over Airborne Aid.
>>717274279Not in the last decade at least
Loving trading card games is such a massive pain in the ass.
>>717278301Instead of printing a gorillion mana symbols just have ONE [color] mana symbol with a number in it. Like with Colorless.
>>717278461Nah, they've only just started the real money squeezing operation with Standard-legal Universes Beyond.
Unless they fuck up in some completely stupid way, they could easily keep this shit rolling for another few years before normies get bored and move onto the next fad.
I imagine most of the oldfags will have been alienated at that point, so it might die at that point, but really I can see it limping along as a zombie for the rest of time.
>>717274927Reading between the lines, it's not that at all. Spiderman was originally going to be a tiny set like asscreed was, but due to a combination of factors including how reviled aftermath sets were and how pathetic asscreed did, it got converted into a proper small set for standard. WotC likely didn't realize until way down the line that they never paid for the digital rights for spiderman, even after the project was changed in scope, because they didn't do it for asscreed either.
>>717275660>>717278573Also, you play some truly dogshit birds like Storm Crow and exclude some of the cracked ones like Alrund/Hakka.

>>717279029well, there's birds in a lot of art
>>717273876Reserve list - collectors/"investors" didn't want those cards to be reprinted ever
So the format with those old cards being playable is pretty expensive.
But then we have modern which also has decks that can be pricey
Then they cam up with Standard which basically is only the three newest sets or so. Aimed at new players who didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a single deck, the format was quite popular but like every TCG in the west, it also got expensive because you have a few people who treat it like a stock market and inflate prices.
Seriously, ever TCG in the west is affected by this behavior
>>717279232This card blows ass, regardless of how great the art is. You don't want to wait for your cards. You want them now.
>>717279245Reserve list is just a boogeyman. It was always a "gentleman's agreement", and there is nothing stopping them from printing functional reprints.
>>717279291It blows so much ass it dominated Standard when it was legal and near singlehandedly sustained UB Faeries' draw needs. You need to wait, sure, but it's still one fucking mana for three cards. There are very little better turn 1/2/3 plays then Ancestral Vision.
LOL FART JOKE
LOL FOURTH WALL BREAK
>>717279530Yeah but if you draw it late game its a dead card, and EDH is a singleton format. I can see it being great in standard or limited since you can just run 4 of them in a 60 card deck.
>>717277939You could cheat that thing out so, so easily on one of your first few turns and pay for at least part of the Harness cost with a Dark Ritual in Legacy.
>>717279441>and there is nothing stopping them from printing functional reprints.Killing the secondary market might not be a good idea.
Nobody wants to find out what would happen if that containment was breached
>>717279584God the red mana symbol over the fire looks like SHIT why didn't you make it blend into the fire jizzards
>>717274927>the only way we can get Universes Within is if they're legally mandated to do itwhy can't those cunts that spook them about the reserve list every couple of years harass them about this too, they did it for like two secret lairs and then stopped
>>717274915Who told you that?
Everyone knows that Draft is the best format.
i hope danny rand gets a card in the marvel set, he's my favorite super hero :)
>>717279991Who told me what? Wrong post?
>>717279789Before commander plagued magic, multiplayer cards were dirt cheap. Rhystic study for example was really affordable. I say kill the secondary market for being a bunch of greedy jews.
I remember the best trade I ever made, 3 copies of Geist of St Taft for a stack of cards that included a playset of swords to plowshares.
Exploiting the comp fags is the best way to trade.
>>717280106Rhystic Studies was affordable because it is complete dogshit outside of commander. In any 1v1 format it's just "your spells cost 1 more."
>magic the transitioning
the game is basically fortnite and cod now, an advertising platform that lost it's original identity
yugioh clears, though the day they do collabs is the day it dies too
>>717280106I don't like it either but the might just flock to other games.
But I'm pretty sure they already do. They might go to other hobbies.
Like retro games :^)
>Commander takes over MtG
>This is the player base that play it
What's the fucking point of playing the damn game at this point?
>>717280202It's dogshit in CEDH too because anyone who isn't retarded just pays the 1.
>>717280262Hopefully we all join the proxy club. Then we can have whatever we want.
>>717272000That is dogshit.
>>717280257Yugioh is soulful yes, but it's also unplayable dogshit.
Never in my life will i sit through another 15 minute snake eye fiendslop combo, that shit made me quit the game forever.
you now remember when one designer at mtg really wanted rogues to be a good tribe so they sneaked in extremely strong cards into various sets only so when Rise of Zendikar released it could all come together to be the most cancerous shit ever
>>717280460Brother I'm gonna be real, you're going to have to pay me money to read that sheet of paper.
>>717280257yugioh hasn't been playable in years, that's why people fled to older formats like edison and goat.
>>717280460Literally what is the autism around poison counters?
>>717280929People have 40 life in commander but still die to only 10 poison counters so it's understandable that it can be irritating to casuals.
>>717277238Yeah you're meant to have them on some sort of rigid sleeve at good temperature/humidity and even THEN they still warp
>>717277621it's always been an inherent problem but it only became a "they literally come out of the pack pringled" issue around 2017 or so. And people have been extremely vocal about it and wotc just can't be fucked fixing it I guess
>>717281112YuGiOh is fucking great honestly. Only problem is you have to play with other people who like YuGiOh, a game for sickos.
>>717280460>Six ways of scoring points>FOURTEEN ways of losing points>Entry is $5, topped at $8 per eventI'm confident this is either made up ragebait, or they're running a scam and actively want to chase people away
>>717277238Good lord, they got worse! I had no idea.
>>717280460>smash bros club but for mtgCasuals were a mistake.
>>717280460>perform a combo within the first 60 minutes of the game>within the first 60 minutes>first 60 minuteshow fucking long does commander go on for? I've actively avoided this format my entire life, even back when it was called EDH cause it sounded gay. a normal MTG game is like 10 minutes at worst unless you're both controlfags
>>717281502I'm convinced it's fake because if you show up, pay 5 dollars, deal combat damage once and concede immediately you leave with 7 dollars of credit
>>717281647It CAN go that long, but that's pretty rare, at least for my friend group. I never play commander with random faggots.
Them writing that though makes is sound like hour+ long games are the norm there, at least for the person who wrote those rules.
>>717281647I've had an EDH match last 5 hours unironically
>>717281647My games take around 20-40 minutes unless there's 4 control decks on the table.
>>717281853How many people were playing? That's bananas.
The most I've played is with two other people, and even that still tends to take over an hour.
>>717281003But the same is true in normal formats? You have 20 life and die to 10 what's the difference.
>>717266636 (OP)after how they censored lulu's lulus?
NONE
>>717282046damn this card is nuts
>>717281729Bring Rogakh as your commander, fill your deck with haste creatures and removal. Show up, deal damage to someone, cast your commander. Next turn remove anything. Leave with 8 dollars.
>>717282046I love this lil nigga.
>>717280460commander players are insufferable. Theyre dumb as fuck but believe themselves to be masterminds when they trick even dumber players into doing what they want. Best part is when they try to socially manipulate people into making their decks worse or try to paint you as the bad guy for playing to win as if winning in a card game is some kind of sin
>>717282046what's with nosewater and the squirrel tribal autism
>>717282003That's the point, commander is designed to let you have more survivability but poison negates that additional survivability.
>>717282310They're just his favorite creature type because he got to create them.
>>717281476>great>wasting 15 minutes per turnNot at all. It's slow as fuck and brainless.
>>717282310They're unbelievably kino, that's what.
>>717271797>thoyou're too young and retarded to understand why
>>717275580>no effect related to sacrificing/on destruction???
>>717283176That's her as a spirit. Her human self is going to be a separate card most likely.
>>717282707Best looking liliana yet just because her regular design is so hideous.
>>717271831It's just BS regardless, as part of the reason the Gods are doodoo worthless not worth playing cards is their lack of protection, so why would it have Shroud
>>717282857But zoomers were the ATLA audience THO
This is THEIR nostalgia
>>717283404He probably based it on the anime effects where they have protection from most things (except when the writers forgot)
>>717283325insanely gay post
>>717280460That's pretty cool actually.
It is a shame Hasbro destroyed commander creativity by printing OP staples, bullshit commanders and bullshit off-field abilities.
>>717280460didn't read, don't give a fuck about your goodboy points system, I'll play however I want
>>717283796She's ugly as shit bro get some standards.
>>717272446So, yeah I know YGO is glorified solitarie, but how much of this is exaggeration and how much is reality?
>>717283878Not him but it's so much worse than you think, the game is literally, unironically 10+ minute combos turn 1 every single time and if you don't have multiple answers in your 5 card opening hand as the 2nd player then you can just scoop.
It's the least playable TCG in existence.
>>717283872Maybe this is more to your tastes
>>717283872I repeat: gay as fuck post
>>717283878No that's very much how every match goes
Second player needs enough anti-gas in their initial draw so that they can have their turn or they get anti-gassed themselves by shit like Apollousa
>>717284226You're right she looks decent here.
>>717284316It's really her slicked back hair and the dumb ornament that bother me.
>>717284754>>717284014So, if I understand correctly, every deck is a balance of your own turn 1 win combo + disruption, and first prays they draw their combo starter while second prays they draw some disruption and their first actual draw is their combo starter?
>>717285130Pretty much. If you don't draw a starter you're bricked and scoop and if you don't have at least 2+ interrupts and your own starter as the one going second you're also bricked and scoop.
This is every YGO match.

anyone got any advice on how to improve this roots brew?
