The first game had BRDMs and a variety of drivable cars and the code is still in the game, but it was removed because it was INSANELY JANK even for Stalker. An entire map that was meant to be a car chase after escaping X-18 was removed (Darkscape). Few other maps were created mainly for cutscenes to take place with vehicles driving through them, like Deadmill and Milrad, there's giant swaths of space in Rostok and Stancia that were meant for vehicles to traverse too.
