Yeah things looked way different before the GWOT-AR convergence. I used to think the G36C with the flattop rail was the coolest thing ever in 2007. Not to mention I bet the 9x39 weapons were still really prevalent with Russian SF at the time.
I'd say the biggest sin about the new weapons is how many of the guns use the same flip up sights, makes them all feel really samey when they have similar firerates and recoil.
