I'm just a gaijin who binged a bunch of translated secondary sources and there are decades long personal narratives involved so take this with a bucket worth of salt, it's also sad but nowhere near as tragic as some of the other horses.
Tomohiro Wada of Symboli Ranch was the ambitious and respected owner of Rudolf and Sirius, after the success of Rudolf he thought he had a winning formula that he could use to conquer the world.
He had high expectations of Sirius. The horse was off to a mixed start and he demanded the jockey to be changed from Kato to Okabe, Rudolf's main jockey. This set off a larger conflict because the trainer wanted to keep Kato but Wada wouldn't relent, this became a wider conflict between the entire stable and Wada with the stable backing the trainer. They agreed to his demands for one race and Okabe did win, then it was back to Kato and he won the Derby, although he got lucky since the main rival Miho Shinzan dropped out due to an injury.
After this brief semi-successful period in Japan, he was taken overseas to conquer Europe, this travel is a struggle even today. A novel idea that is much more common now was that Sirius would be together with Rudolf, but Rudolf suffered an injury from which he did later recover, but after that plans changed with the idea that being that Rudolf should take America instead.
So Sirius was sent out to conquer Europe alone, throughout his races he was left in the care of a rotating door of local trainers and caretakers with most of the usual staff being left in Japan due to their conflict with Wada. Sirius was only ridden twice by Okabe, and never by his main Japanese jockey, Kato, who was left at home. Besides those two runs he was ridden by a random assortment of local euro jockeys.
While Sirius attained a few top 3s he never won a race in Europe, after the failed tour Sirius returned a broken horse.
