Why do Russians say Rurik created Russia when Rurik was a Ukrainian man?

New evidence from various studies have shown that Rurik who is accepted to have started the Russian civilization was in fact not Scandinavian, but a Ukrainian man and that Eastern European civilization started in Ukraine and then moved forward to present day Russia and not the opposite way from Scandinavia.
Russians as usual have had control of history writing it to their own benefit but now that Ukraine has been independent they have been disproving this false history.
It is one of the biggest resons why Russia invaded Ukraine, to hide and destroy evidence of Ukraine being older than Russia.
