I only played during the first war alpha thing but I was very impressed by the way the combat went.
Several IRL days of small skirmishes, little raids here and there until finally both sides would get a big army, stare each other down maybe fight over road for a little bit, do a little bit of sieging and then they just go back to skirmishes.
there were so few actual full on battles they were actually noteworthy enough to be named.
Of course this went out the window when the remnant stacked up so much food and armor they were able to just keep charging us over and over again and that stalemate collapsed
