Light Yagami was not just a teenager with a magic notebook—he was, at heart, a megalomaniac who stumbled upon absolute power over fate. The Death Note didn’t just kill: it allowed control over the causality of events up to 23 days before death, giving the user control over specific actions, behaviors, and situations of victims. This isn’t just murder; it’s rewriting reality. By forcing a criminal to commit suicide after acting in a certain way, Light was interfering with free will, manipulating chains of events like a true architect of fate. This is a metaphysical form of divinity: shaping causality rather than just reacting to it.

More than that, Light was already a technical “God” before he killed anyone, simply by being in possession of an artifact capable of altering the timeline of any human being. He didn’t need public adoration to be divine—his divinity was functional. But his narcissism required validation, worship. Instead of remaining in the shadows, manipulating factional wars, creating controlled chaos and remaining untouchable, he chose the more dramatic and egotistical path: to appear as a messiah of justice, attracting the attention of governments, the media and, of course, L. This was his fatal mistake: he traded absolute power for the feeling of power.

If Light were truly intelligent, he would have used the Death Note as a geopolitical tool. To create armed conflicts, provoke political assassinations, manipulate economies and instability without leaving any obvious traces. He could easily simulate attacks, factional wars, scandals that would ruin reputations — and all of this using only criminals as disposable pawns. In time, he would have indirect control over governments, companies, religions. And if he wrote in the notebook that the world should accept him as the savior who would postpone his death in exchange for global peace, this would come true within the supernatural limits of the Note.
