Gru is a fraud. Man has never invented anything in his life. Every tool he uses is either stolen from someone else (shrink ray, mutagen) or invented by his aid Dr Neferious (freeze ray, his car.) Man can't even break into a building without a convoluted scheme that takes weeks, and this is WITH an army of minions that do whatever he asks without question.
Megamind, on the other hand, invents anything he needs out of nearby trash and, given time, builds himself robotic armies and orbital lasers. It's not even a contest. Gru's only wincon is that he's maybe physically stronger, and even that might not be true anymore.
