I understand the flavor reasoning for both IVs and Natures, to give more individuality to each Pokémon even within the same species, but there's realism and there's going too realistic that it no longer makes the game an enjoyable piece of entertainment if you fully understand the game's mechanics, which is a requirement for high level play.
What should have happened was when the hidden stats changed in Gen 3, DVs were replaced with Natures rather than replaced with IVs and add Natures on top of it. I think Natures are okay and the right balance of video game and realism with the intended flavor. Mints are an acceptable band-aid for the stat alterations Natures provide, but I have other issues with them.
