The DS version is casualized too, even if you play on "classic" mode you have the 180° turn and the quick knife at all times, the zombies and Hunters have different AI and the Hunters were made a lot easier (with the shotgun you can just hold the shooting button and you'll automatically shoot them again as they get up)
As for the revamped DS mode, the new puzzles are literal toddler tier (insert square shaped object in square shaped hole...) and the first person knife fights are shit (spam diagonal to win... works every time.)
as for the new 3D models I think they're more miss than hit
Don't get me wrong, back when it came out I was glad this version existed. I was at my first year in college and I had no internet connection and only a shitty laptop and a DS, I did many playthroughs. But saying it's RE1 is like saying those GBA versions of Final Fantasy 1-2 are FF1-2.
