Cream, Lanolin and Vanilla getting cut is because of future events. Tangle got upset that Jewel was going to have a lot of work to do after Emeraldville got rebuilt so she subtly lit it aflame when nobody was around. Or at least she thought nobody was around... Cream and Vanilla were there and Lanolin dies trying to save them, forever scarring their minds.
