Does /pol/ watch Soviet cinema? I started watching commieslop instead of Hollywood goyslop a while ago, and it has been interesting. Some films are like bizarro versions of western movies, while others are much more clearly and distinctly Russian.

Here's Red Snowball Tree (Кaлинa кpacнaя), a 1974 doomercore movie about a released convict who shacks up with a female pen-pal in a remote Siberian village, only to find that trouble continues to follow him:

It was incredibly popular in the USSR. By some measures, it was the MOST successful Soviet film within the Soviet Union, but it isn't as well-known outside the eastern bloc as other Soviet films for some reason. It sort of promotes positive values like self-improvement and self-sacrifice, but in a very cynical Russian style.

Soviet kino thread? What are some of your favorites? I guess we can include pre-revolution Russian Empire films from the 1910's, too, though I haven't seen any.
