Apparently he was supposed to do an S-rank mission that day, aka something akin to rescuing Gaara in part 2. It makes you wonder if there were any dire consequences for Kakashi going after the Naruto and Sasuke instead of doing that mission.
Though, I wonder, did he just return from another mission in this scene? Or was he literally doing nothing until he barges in Tsunade's office?
