The reality outside the simulation is almost exactly like the one inside, you're in transit on a ship travelling to a new place, because your illusion of existence exhausts all resources everywhere you go, and so you're literally sitting in a pod practicing for your role when we wake you up and touch down on the planet.

Every couple of thousand years we wake you up and have you play a game to make sure everything is okay.

If we were to wake you up now, all you could do is inspect the ship, look out the window and ask about the stars and then after you get bored, you get put down under again. Also don't ask how many layers in the simulation, obviously, we don't know for the same reason you don't. Probably, but it really doesn't matter one way or the other does it? Your choice is to play the game or not.
