i do a lot of low level programming, and the level of detail you need to make robust, fault tolerant, reliable, efficient, maintainable, and extensible systems is to think reeeeeally fucking hard about it and be reeeeeally fucking careful in what order you choose to do things. i have zero trust LLMs or generative ai can turn a loose description of desired behavior in lots of cases into a solution, let alone a high quality solution.
and even if it did, until we figure out how creative people are going to survive an ai economy that came into existence off of their work with no kickbacks, i value people doing creative work over a machine.
i like computer graphics and the technical aspects behind games, and recognize that a huge part of doing 3d graphics and games is making programs to generate data. but there's a huge difference in making mountains using a noise map and training a model on people's art of mountains to generate mountains in their style. the latter is waaay too far, and i'll take my money elsewhere, even if plebs still lap up that slop. i refuse this shit every step beyond simple laughs on a chinese imageboard
