He literally said he included it in the game BECAUSE he didn't understand it. Like he thought it was really cool that he couldn't get his head around it so included it as a central element in the story. This is like someone deciding to smith their own canons for a ship BECAUSE they have no idea how metallurgy works, and then acting surprised when people criticize their work because the canons fucking explode from poor tensile strength when they're attempted to be fired.
It's baffling. Genuinely baffling. A lot of writers include elements they don't fully understand because they think they understand something better than they actually do, this is the only instance I've ever heard of where a writer goes "Yeah I included it because I know fuckall about it, also stop criticizing it."
