They did it on purpose just to start as much shit as fast and hard as possible. The whole situation is a massive FAFO for Cambodia. Thais were holding back to try to stabilize things so tourists wouldn't get spooked but because Cambodians are operating on animal logic, they see any diplomacy as weakness so they called down the thunder and now they'll reap the whirlwind.
