Burntrap was intended to basically just be this. Just a far away, oddly familiar springtrap-looking thing you could rarely catch glimpses at random spots of to make you question things and theorize because Scott thrives off theorybait. But Scott communicated extremely poorly with Steel Wool, treating the group responsible for developing the newest game in his franchise like they were theorists and only feeding them keywords and hints and never the full intended story, so they obviously got the wrong idea.
