>Grating voice acting, the Mimic has like what, half a dozen lines that blare at full volume by default for the entire playthrough
>Mimic by itself is a dumb concept desu, feel like we somehow regressed from FNAF 1 when it comes to horror. The game has nothing to offer beside "don't get caught or a jumpscare will play", but part of what made jumpscares effective in the original game was that the game forced you to pay attention to what was happening at all time. If it's just a game of cat-and-mouse you just tune out whenever the "You're spotted" sound plays

I can't believe Scott's insane mechanical designs are trapped in this shit series.
Make Desolate Hope 2 you fucking bible thumper.
Why doesn't the mimic hide within a suit with the minimum amount of visual and audio clues to ambush unaware players
Why doesn't the mimic switch up the suits used per encounter, as in in a single encounter and not just "waaw he spawns in a different suit every time I reload"
Why doesn't the mimic fake you out with a suit and then flank you with a different suit or even suitless? Maybe when it spots you it can book it for your location and if you break sight you'd hear a really loud audio cue and then the limp suit would come jumping/flying at you and the mimic would have already been on route to entering another suit or coming at you from a different direction
Why are the jumpscare sounds shit, it's like a cut off version of the Joy of Creation yell and sometimes it bafflingly uses the Security Breach gregory scream.
Why are the jumpscare gifs equally shit

It's only different when it possesses Jackie, and that's just a gameplay chase. I'm not sure if Big Top is supposed to be it as well, but White Tiger and Moon are separate from it.
I know this is a game for kids, but if you're making the star of your game a robot that can pop in any of the hundreds of costumes in the facility to hunt you down, then AT LEAST make it so that when it loses track of you it sheds its costume and put on another one before staying still for a while. Really ramp up the paranoia.

Steel Wool misunderstood Scott Cawthon's intentions and made a big "true ending boss fight" spectacle out of what Scott wanted to be a small easter egg and theory fuel. >>713288184Henry designed springlock technology with Edwin. That's why when he pulled the plug, the project failed, Edwin had no use for springlocks because he didn't sell them.
Everything else can be explained away, Chica probably came via a corporate merger with Chica's Party World, while Foxy, the house and all the other MCM ips were actually stolen by William.

>>713289259lmao as if sb wasn't fucked up enough
>>713288951Scott himself admitted in an interview (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrgSbteWMC8) that Burntrap was not at all supposed to be what it turned out to be and that Ruin is his and Steel Wool's way to unfuck the mess that was Security Breach. Ruin has various little collectible drawings of all the "false" endings as a way to deconfirm the various endings in Security Breach, as if they were just random shit Gregory came up with or whatever. The Burntrap ending is one of them. By process of elimination and other clues, the Princess Quest ending is the canon ending to Security Breach.
I think Scott trying to be vague about the story is the reason steel wool ruined the story of SB. they had to take the scraps scott told them and fit them in ways he didn't intend. so for secret of the mimic they made the story as clear and unvague as possible
>>713289586>isn't that mimic gregory saying that though? No the real gregory says it while mimic is fighting Roxy
it's why he can tell you the directions to turn during the chase
>>713286424Imo the first game felt like it had the strongest presence of ghosts/the supernatural. The spirits literally hijack the night 5 phonecall just to remove any uncertainty that these animatronics/this pizzeria are possessed. The random visual splashes of "it's me" and the presence of golden freddy (who, for all intents and purposes, is practically an incorporeal being in fnaf 1) contribute to this as well.
Then again, fnaf2 & 3 had all of the spirits in the minigames, so they do have more of a presence in those games, but fnaf 1 is the game that actually blends paranormal activity seemlessly into the core gameplay. The minigames are more of a series of vignettes for the player to watch.

He was supposed to just be something you saw in the corners, or like if you were walking past the machinery you might be able to peek in between two things and see him in the corner propped up against a wall, almost like some kind of decaying movie prop.>And you never fully understood what his purpose was. And he had a very specific purpose. And I'm not gonna say what that purpose was, but realistically he never moved.Burntrap was intended to basically just be this. Just a far away, oddly familiar springtrap-looking thing you could rarely catch glimpses at random spots of to make you question things and theorize because Scott thrives off theorybait. But Scott communicated extremely poorly with Steel Wool, treating the group responsible for developing the newest game in his franchise like they were theorists and only feeding them keywords and hints and never the full intended story, so they obviously got the wrong idea.

>>713272663>The variety is only in its form. There's no difference whether it's possessing >t. didn't play the game at allThe Mimic has noticeably different speeds and levels of reactiveness d0eendign on what body it is using. It is also LITERALLY every animatronic in the game because it's 'code' possesses all of them, even the ones it isn't directly inside of - this includes Big Top amongst others.
>>713291185Most likely they just got better over time and Scott learned to actually communicate exactly what he wanted from them instead of giving them snippets and hoping they'd divine his purpose.
There's already a glitch with the locker rooms which allows speedrunners to finish the game in four minutes so who knows if it's as mega buggy as SB was before.
>>713291185>What made Secret of the Mimic so much better than SB?Nta but from what I can gather from all the posts here, communication. Scott had to be explicit to prevent another SB.

>>713282854>Edwin>thinkingLol. Lmao even.

IMO they should've made an Ennard-centric game instead. But killing it off in PS and the "Ennard's actually just a vessel for the ghosts from FNAF 1-3" reveal kind of left the character in a corner.
>>713291518You could still make a "one enemy" game with Ennard's chronological final form so far: the Blob
picture this, a medium sized building, tentacles come out of holes in the floor, walls and ceilings, heads of various animatronics like F.Freddy, F.Foxy, Baby, etc. pop out and scan for targets, tentacles even slide out and start operating machinery
we know it's active and that it tunneled out of the Pizzaplex, that never got resolved
>>713291448If it IS inside Big Top, then either it's hooked into a control center somewhere or the damn thing's stretching and sizeshifting abilities are even more nonsense than I thought. I only say it probably infected him via his coding because of the fact every other Edwin animatronic is infected (they all have its trademark glowing yellow ypeyes under its control) and the fact it frequently repeats the "Tickets please" line during its final chase.

>>713293531I'd have agreed with you 10 years ago, but now I'm at the point where I appreciate the unwritten rule that we never see Fredbears directly, and only ever see hints of what Fredbear himself ever actually looked like
>>713292887>Mimick>Notably out of place>Grounded in realityReally continuing the trend of everyone crying about realism in games like these being total drooling retards.
>>713293645Isn't golden freddy just fredbear? I am a lorelet please forgive me.
>>713293035Mimic could also see. I assume that was something of an advantage.
>>713292217>Created by a man who appears friendly to the public but is a total asshole in realityBy all indications Elliot was a genuinely nice guy who only really wanted to bring back his daughter using the poppy fluid and help gifted kids. Assuming the Prototype is him after being made into a Bigger Body, then presumably he only became evil after becoming genuinely insane in the process and if it WASN'T made by or became him, then he's entirely innocent of its current crimes.
>>713293035In the books it's not even close, Mimic is like a masterpiece where all the other animatronics are mass produced junk in comparison. They all job to it.
>>713294101It's unclear. Nightmare Fredbear and the representation of Fredbear in the atari segment is very visibly a different shape
fatter, with a different head shape
but the "Fredbear" in UCN is a Golden Freddy recolor
>>713294101We don't really know the specifics, but it seems likely that Golden Freddy is the FNAF 1 location Fredbear, while the ORIGINAL Fredbear, from Fredbears Family Diner, is the one that inspired Nightmare Fredbear and we see a prototype of in Secret
Im sure there's a definitive answer, but its usually pretty inconsistent
>>713293035anon, prime Roxy jobbed to a fucking go-kart, Mimic survives a car crash in two different endings in SOTM without any apparent damage to its body
you COULD maybe argue that Ruin Mimic has been rusting away for decades and decades down there, maybe, but Roxy is also fucked at that point
>>713294101"Golden Freddy" is more of an offshoot of Fredbear. Fredbear is the original animatronic and father of all Freddies, Golden Freddy is the ghostly manifestation of some dead kid(s) no one agrees on the identity of who may or may not have been killed by/inside/whateverthefuck Fredbear.
>>713294494Okay but where does
>Freddy Blanco (calvo, sin sombrero)fit into the power ranking.
>Scott will never make another game that's not just a Five Nights at Freddy's spinoff
>we will never get another Desolate Hope
feels bad man...
>>713287985Burntrap was never mimic
The retards just keep parroting this shit but the only thing close between them is that Mimic imitates people and burntrap imitates afton due to being a digital copy of him uploaded into the endo.
>>713294729Scott will never make another game bro he quit the Mimic of the Secret was made by some other guys.
>Plot of the next game would be Mimic from Ruin accessing the glitchtrap files
>Gets overpowered by the files and overtaken by Willy as a result, since one is just a program and the other is a digital backup of ones' fucking soul
>Randomly switches between mimic and Glitchtrap, both fighting for control
It would be retarded, it would be a copout of 6 (again), but DAMN if it wouldnt be fun unless SW fucks it up again.
>>713294729This game is inspiring some fangames apparently, there's one on gamejolt I believe, though it's probably made by some aspirational teenagers and will never be finished
>>713287985>>713294889Its at the bare minimum the mimick AI uploaded into the Endo that springlocked William. That's all glitchtrap even is, after all, is the Mimick AI mimicking Afton

the music was surprisingly good
I really do like that SotM retains the whole supernatural aspect of the series that Security Breach threw away for AI.
Like, it feels like Steel Wool GOT that part of the series' appeal is having apparitions that could be explained away by plausible deniability.
>In the first game Phone Guy explains that the robots are just following their faulty programming until you read the notes that imply they're possessed
>In the second game the Toys are explained away the seame
>In Sister Location you can chalk the robots being murderous up to them being made by William fucking Afton
SotM retains this since for the most part you just think it's the Mimic, a rogue AI, trying to kill you, until you get to the basement and realize he's NOT the only malicious entity there since the Tiger (David's ghost) and the Moon (whatever he is) are both 100% supernatural forces that aren't the Mimic. Even beforehand there's that Elephant head that lights up like the FNAF 3 bad ending screen without any explanation.
I hope the next game keeps that balance since Security Breach dropped the ball hard on it.
>>713296021it sure is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp8o35zahgo
>>713296345>and the moonis this a secret ending thing? if it is don't tell me, I haven't done ng+ yet
>>713296680It's essential for the NG+ secret ending but in a hidden away part of the basement there's something wearing a moon costume sealed away down there by the employees before the Mimic even became hostile. Some people think it's not even an animatronic but a dude who died in the basement and came back as a zombie.
>>713296972huh
is there anything else I can miss that would lock me out of the ending? I picked up the...thing in the parachute ending that carries over
>>713267097 (OP)Is it like security breach? That was the FNAF game I liked the most.
>>713296345>ToysPretty sure toys were always blatantly stated to be robots with buggy(?) face recognition and never posessed, while the posessed ones were the weathered because they're the same ones as in 1.
>>713297167It's more like Ruin/Help Wanted.
>>713297241There's a second set of dead kids that William kills in 2 that presumably possess the Toys afterwards and lead to the Bite of 87. They just never get brought up at all after 2.
>>713297167I'd say yeah. It's pretty similar. You sneak around, you hide from patrolling enemies, there's a "hub" area you return to after heading out to the branch areas that are the domain of a particular enemy you have to first hide from and then confront in a chase...yeah, it's basically like SB
>>713297241Funny how we still don't know that much about the Toys. You could be right, but there was also the DCI and so the Toys can also just be possessed.
The DCI is among the box and 87 for things we just kinda forgot about.
>>713297264>>713297345Thanks for the info, I will pick it up then
>>713297241William actually murdered a second set of id's who are heavily implied to have went on to possess the toys. They simply get completely forgotten in favor of the main man himself.
>>713267097 (OP)>retcons Henry to being pointless and makes it so Edwin created literally everything in FNAFThis franchise is a fucking joke.
Anyone else think that the steelwool games miss what made scott fnaf more unique and interesting? like they used to be actue micromanagement stress sims but now they are more generic.
>>713297801the sneaking parts are definitely more generic, true
I wish they made a game that was ONLY the management parts
you know, the tubes in Big Top's room, the elevator controls while Dollie is knocking on the ceiling, basically a full game of Vent Repair and Parts & Service from Help Wanted
>>713297767Oh no not the sanctity of Henry, fan favorite and deepest character in the franchise.
>>713297767He appears in the next movie anon, and as far as we know Edwin doesn't exist in the movie timeline.
>>713278768how the fuck has this thing survived more than 50 fucking years? you'd think afton would try to at least recruit this thing before he died
>>713298176>Comes out of the blue at the very ending to deliver the most kino fucking moment in the entire franchise which resonate to this dayDon't be a facetious little faggot. It's just bad writing. Like Skullface in MGSV super secretly fighting all the bosses in MGS3 and making it easy for Bibo. Just retroactively taking the piss out of an established character.
Are these games actually fun to play if you don't give a shit about lore? Never touched any of 'em.
>>713298523None of this changes by him not being the designer of the characters. In fact that shit was always a book thing only
>>713298469In Ruin we find it hidden under the old Fnaf 6 pizzaria, the one that was literally just a trap built by Henry. Sometime after Henry goes missing, he must've found F10-N4 and M2 and locked them up so it couldn't start any trouble.
>>713297943I guess to articulate it better fnaf1-4 had each animatronic have its own mechanic that feed into each other to keep you constantly stressed, but now its more just like cinematic set pieces with very boring "get the thing from here and go here do this" busywork.
>>713298654The Clickteam games are all kino resource management games. SB is a miserable experience but Ruin and this game are really high quality, modern mascot horror games.
>>713298654Classic-style FNAF games are fun if you enjoy continuous stress buildup. They're very good at that.
Security Breach, Ruin and SOTM are...fine, if you're into more generic horror games, the "sneak and hide" kind. Think Amnesia.
>>713267097 (OP)Telling FNAF fan that this is a lame Poppy's Playtime ripoff is good fun.
Some even try to cope by saying 'not uh, it takes more influence from RE!"
>>713298839At this point might as well say all horror games are Amnesia rip-offs
>>7132986541-6 are like, a fun episodic resource management series. They are (mostly) solid but very shallow besides their core mechanics. The remade versions of 1-3 in VR are phenomenal and probably the best the series has to offer.
This new one is really good actually. It's not perfect or anything, but the setting and set pieces are really really fun even if you don't give a shit about the lore, which would be fine regardless since it's currently the earliest point in the timeline
>>713278768>falls into a pit of lava and digs out of itHe fucking fell in to molten metal/lava twice, once as Nurse and once at the bridge section. It didn't do shit.
What the fuck Edwin?
>>713299034>remade versions of 1-3 in VROh boy I've always wanted to die from a heart attack.
>>713298816>>713298821>>713298839They should have built off of sister location instead of resident evil if they wanted story driven games, have more gameplay mechanics like the ones from classic fnaf instead of them just upping in difficulty connected by the story beats.
>>713299345It's best when they are adapting the Help Wanted style mini games to a linear campaign. Like the elevator sections or mistro music man
>>713299540And it helps keep fnaf more unique as a series, I couldn't tell you what gives fnaf its own identity outside of it being at chuckie cheese with the newer games.
>>713299540Yeah literally just cut the busywork roaming entirely and just make it basically a big budget Sister Location
go to [animatronic]'s domain, solve esoteric puzzle with that animatronic breathing down your neck, take what you need, back to central area, go to [animatronic]'s domain...and so on until the twist final boss animatronic
>>713299763Keep the chases though, I liked those
>>713299876>>713300424Really the formula in Secret was perfect, the ratios were just all wrong. The sneaking around should be like 20 percent of the game instead of 80
>>713300705Yeah, I would probably like that more.
>>713297767>Edwin created literally anythingHe made the base prototype designs which got iterated on once Henry and William bought out his company, which is how real businesses work. There's also the fact that Edwin's own designs had a lot more glaring flaws in them than Henry or William's did outside of their springlocks being shittier than his - Edwin' stuff became more and more prone to having massive failures that could cripple or injure people compared to the Fazbear stuff which only truly became dangerous post-possession.
It's a real shame she got so little screentime. Her chase was the best, but her personality and characterization is so entertaining. She like an overexcited puppy.
>>713267097 (OP)It's not a replayable arcade experience, so it's not really a return to form. But it's definitely a step in the right direction from the tire fire that was Security Breach. My autism is bothered by the last two games not actually involving five nights at all.
>>713302530Actually yeah what the fuck why isn't it five nights anymore, next you'll tell me there's no freddy in it.
