Do you mean the type variety of the introduction of new mons? Cause Sinnoh does both worse.
Didn't pick the fire type starter? Ponyta for you! 3 electric types until post game and in a region where a third of the map is covered in snow you have 2 ice types, one of which hinders your team with a hail ability unless it's the other ice type. Type variety is so bad that boss fights don't even have full teams of their types. As for new mon distribution, see pic related.

I still don't quite understand this one. Not saying it's wrong but rather is the problem that it's too easy like every other Pokemon game due to the levels? Or too hard and you have to grind to meet the levels (you don't btw).

Gen 4 has terrible pacing, the same cookie cutter "stop the evil team with box art legend" that all new Pokemon games have, horrible presentation and as you say; incredibly slow.
