I don't think there would be much more you could've done for her if she was determined to leave.
I have no idea what an afterlife would be, but I believe all the good has to go somewhere. So she lives on in the good and beauty in this fucked up world.
We are all doomed to suffer and die and there is no shame in taking a way out yourself, that is a blessing given to sapient beings, although it harms the ones who love them.
