I wouldn't blame too much since they didn't develop that side of the plot much in favor of the high school stuff, but I guess the fact that he got what he wanted in the end (Earthians got more power so they can stand against/alongside Spacians) on the expense of his freedom and Miorine doesn't endear him any better to anyone.
