Real life is complicated. Some areas are foggier than others, some less so. Game developers have to decide how they want to interpret real life in their game, because games do reflect real life. I don't think I ever argued for stringent realism. I explained that the effect has a basis in reality. An artist would take note of that but not be a slave to it, amplifying the effect or subduing it on a case by case basis.
