There is no point in learning Japanese if you never experience school life and all the clichés in Japan.
Only work, and if you are rich or work remotely and can afford more time off, then everyone else is still working and you won't establish any relationships. What's the point of doing anything that won't bring you closer to people? And wages are not that good.

In the 1980s in the USA even men wore short clothes. I think it's because people are more optimistic, so they are more carefree and less worried. Also, the age structure has changed and as the society is older on average all generations are becoming slightly older in behavior. Today's grandmothers complaining about the indecent clothing of today's youth used to dress much more provocatively, but there are too few young people and too many old people in the general population, so everything is made for the old people, even social norms.
