I'd say Flynn got killed as character more than Shaw did, his entire questline in BfA was about him crushing on Bolvars daughter, then suddenly he's a faggot. I think I read Flynn was an Afrasiabi character though and the devs made him a faggot as an insult to him after he left the company.
