Hot take: The next Star Fox game should take place after Star Fox Zero.
Star Fox Adventures originally being a different game and reworked into a Star Fox game in name paired with Star Fox Command's general unpopularity and divisive endings really muddied the timeline.
Star Fox 64 and Star Fox: Assault are fine and fit the Star Fox world, but the other two really don't.
Star Fox Zero offers a chance to rewrite the events of those games in a way that better fits the Star Fox universe. Make one cohesive universe/timeline.
Make the next game Star Fox One or Star Fox Zero-One, something like that, but have it be a re-imagining of Star Fox 2 in the Star Fox Zero timeline/canon.
Star Fox 2 was ahead of its time IMO and I think a fully fleshed out modern version of it on the Switch 2 could be excellent if done right.
Plus, I am unsure if Star Fox can pull off a Devil May Cry 5 situation successfully, where a reboot attempt was just completely ignored and they jumped back to the original timeline.
