Hard agree with the anons saying that everything changed on 9/11. There was a hysterical frenzy of muh patriotism that led to the PATRIOT act (which signed away our rights) and two wars (for oil, opium, and halliburton). We burned thru our surplus, and then the 2008 recession finished things off.
