Here are my beginner tips/general orientation info:
- the game is completely centered around its Main Story Quest (MSQ), if you're ever unsure of what to do, just keep progressing that
- yellow sidequests are filler, blue sidequests unlock things so try to do blue ones when you have time
- make sure to mess around with your options and settings once you're used to the game a little, there are some very useful things hidden in there
- one example of the above is the "Legacy Movement" option which I highly advise you try out at some point
Overall, just take the game at your own pace. As a newbie, you have a lot of content to work through so there's no rush. The game is very story/reading heavy so if you're not liking it this game is probably not for you but if you are enjoying it than savor the journey.
