Biologically, humans with an extra BS gene. Sociologically, most of them pretend to be a different species just cause they're so thoroughly dissatisfied with their lot in life that they'd rather be as separated from the normies as they can be. Sadly, they're still ultimately humans. Ironically, probably more human than guys like Spider-Man, Hulk, the Fantastic Four or other mutates they treat with major contempt for being "too human".

Economically, they're non-human for tax purposes on their toy sales.
