People in their 30s and up view a few years as a blip in their life span. It comes and goes quick. Truth is you never stop learning and gaining life experience. And people develop at different rates and hit different peaks. It's just irrational to expect people to couple up by exact levels of unquantifiable life experience. If one partner has more life experience then that should be a good thing. They are more mature and can help the other partner.
