why yes, I did ignore attacks from an evil dragon across my own country
I wanted to go on a vacation
why yes, I did give godlike power to an enemy faction in exchange for nothing.
I wanted to go on a vacation
Why yes, I did subject all the god-gifted people of my own country to a genocide which resulted in a civil war

First gacha game?
Artifacts/relics/discs unlock late into the onboarding process, effectively hiding the mechanic from fresh players. Once they are implemented they become essential to keep up with the level scaling, but in order to merely clear content you only need the correct primary attribute on each piece and perhaps a set bonus, and it does not need to be the highest rarity.
Gathering this at 4 star rarity is not difficult because they drop like candy at the highest AR/TL/IL, but in order to do the end-game modes you do actually need the 5 star versions, and this is where the compounding nature of the RNG of getting
>the correct set
>the correct main stat
>the correct substat
>the correct additional rolls into the substats
>A high enough numerical roll on those additional rolls into the substats (yes that's right, substat rolls are not deterministic and can roll high or low, allowing two pieces with the same stat allocations to experience different performance)
This is the engagement trap. You can start with your dps but eventually you'll want good relics on everyone and that takes actual years to accomplish, during which time those older characters will slowly become irrelevant due to changing enemy focuses or straight up power creep.
This is why it is the superior option to treat these games casually. I myself only play these games while having my breakfast and afternoon tea, doing the "easy" three floors of whatever end-game mode and rolling for who I like. Statistical superiority and "gitting gud" is just a slot machine. It is a gambling game after all, but the biggest trick they ever pulled was convincing you that pulls on character banner was the hardest thing to get.
