I think the misery porn is the hard to understand part. It's the inbuilt filter the same way Sonny Boy's storytelling was. It's very difficult to look past either, but once you do it's a very direct message. The point for me at least is that while the medium has plenty of weight to it, there's an undercurrent you can pick up on, and it lends so much more weight than any standard climax could. Part of me wants to say this is only possible in the format of a weekly animated release but that might lend it too much credit
