It's the best feeling ever when reading a paper and suddenly something just clicks and you get it now. Polygon ear clipping seems intimidating at first but it's actually quite simple: you keep track of certain types of vertices that form triangles that are considered valid by this algorithm's rules, you call these "ears" of the polygon and you remove them one by one. Each removed ear is a valid triangle to render and you just continue this removal process until nothing is left.
