Survival horror itself has some of the most autistic gatekeepers you will ever meet online, particularly on /v/ where it got so bad with their purism at one point that they couldn't agree on a definition so it went from RE1 being the only game that adhered to their strict standards to not even RE1 being able to “”qualify”” as survival horror. It became this elusive genre that they both vehemently insisted and believed actually existed but simultaneously no game actually was because there was always too much action or too much ammo for their tastes or if it was like Outlast where you couldn't defend yourself at all suddenly there was too little action. There are a sizeable number of people who don't believe the genre is legitimate at all and they will never refer to a game as one, even the fixed camera ones, and it's because of places like /v/ and Reddit and even some Youtubers who act like they're the only ones with keys to the gate while constantly contradicting themselves and each other.
