>>211624571It felt like the film was somehow rushed despite the nearly 5 year gap between sequels. Shame too since the set up was decent and there were still novel ideas like immune and smarter infected, they just had no clue what to do with the second and third acts.

Is that achievable running form? I dream to be able to convey such emotion.

>>211624870>the scientists were in fact for the most part just dicking around and putting his men at risk for nothingHe was an asshole and his subordinates lacked discipline but he wasn't wrong
>>211624957It has it's moments but is a bit of a wasted premise. The intro is the best bit.
>>211624875not everyone has an aesthetic run. that's why Tom Cruise is the goat.
>>211624957>He was an asshole He was, but that was the correct thing to be. He was put in charge after Major Cooper got killed, and the scientists said Cooper was a lot nicer. So, naturally, Rhodes takes over and just lays down the law to minimize casualties, and tells the scientists that they need to show that their work has some value to make up for the human cost it's been inflicting.

>>211625603Price, Lee, and Cushing are all great, but I don't think they play off each other as well. Throwing some more comedy-leaning actors in the mix makes for a great combination of fun and creepy.
What concept or scene or idea from a horror movie has genuinely spooked/unsettled you? Most times I watch horror movies I just get jumpscared by a monster that would never exist in reality and it makes the experience kinda weak.
>>211625802Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein has a great cast. Vincent Price actually does the voice of The Invisible Man.
I might have to rewatch that for Halloween.
>>211625925I find unexplainable places/zones/events to be creepy. Like in The Vault of Horror (aka Tales from the Crypt II) there's a short where a woman climbs up a rope and disappears with a scream and some blood. Or like Picnic at Hanging Rock or Stalker.

That's why she was convincing him to get the kids off the island. But yeah she didn't forsee the danger of him getting bitten and carrying it. >>211630717Yeah I have and enjoyed it, feels more like a government dark op though. For me it's more unnatural invisible phenomena without reason. Like the Bermuda Triangle freaked me out as a kid.

>>211630877>You didn't get a sense of the characters like in the first filmYeah this was a bit of a fatal flaw. Basically they made a plot where the MC was being passed forward like a virus, and as each one died it was passed onto another. And by the end you're supposed to come around to the kids being the MCs, but it's like eh whatever.
If they had just had Poots instead of two of them it might have been stronger.

How about that, it's time for another pointless post with my brief thoughts on what I just watched.
>Borderline (2025)
Absolute must watch IMO. This was just a pleasure to watch and hits the comedy parts just right. Alba Baptista is fantastic as Penny and was honestly the best part of the movie, which is saying something. Weaving lost her fake American accent twice just a tad that it's noticeable in 2 scenes and I had a good chuckle for it. Nicholson plays a crazy man so well with good comedic flare, just throwing himself into it. Also, it's just great when you can see his dad in him at times.
>Exeter (2015)
It's good, but not great. The twist reveal can be seen coming, but the ride was enjoyable. It did have some moments where it drags and none of the characters are likeable. Still would recommend it gets a watch because it's not a bad movie by any means.
>Hippopotamus (2018)
Not horror, but a drama-thriller. It's a 50/50 movie because of how slow it is. Yes, it's one of those movies where even at the end, you're not sure what was true and who was right or wrong. It's a good movie to have a debate about on those things, but it's definitely not a movie everyone is going to enjoy.
>>211635121>movie's called Hippopotamus>it's not a creature feature about a killer hippo

Never watched Mandy, is it good /hor/bros ?
>>211625307it's supposed to be viewed in motion, obviously. the intro focuses on him for much of the escape which heightens tension as you see infected slowly close the gap behind him without it being the focus. i particularly like the shot where the other group of infected come over the hill at full tilt and start angling him off as he approaches the dock with the boat, they linger on it just long enough to let the zombies get alarmingly close to the guy. it's a 10/10 opening sequence

Thread opinion on Color Out of Space?
>>211629708Just got back from this, solid movie. It does fall into the 28 Weeks trap where the beginning is amazing and the rest of the film doesn't quite hold up but unlike Weeks, it doesn't fall off hard and maintains a consistent level of quality.
It's basically a coming of age adventure story with zombies, the most interesting thing it does compared to other zombie flicks is that it actually tries to worldbuild with post-apocalyptic isolated Britian and the evolution of the Rage Virus. For that you probably shouldn't have watched the trailers because some scenes are framed to subvert your expectations on what you'd come to expect from the Infected of the series.
>>211602292There are just so many great horror games some of which were quite revolutionary for gaming as a whole too but most of them aren't commonly thought of as being horror because of one particular franchise.
I love Resident Evil and without it I don't think horror in gaming would've been considered a thing at all, but I also dislike how 'survival horror' has completely muddied the waters and has skewed people's understanding of what it actually means, particularly the fixed camera tank control ones. I remember coming across some Reddit thread a few years ago asking if people considered Bloodborne a horror game and some of the answers said no because 'you're too powerful' but other posts correctly pointed out how they were obviously confusing horror with survival horror and I've seen that happen a lot myself over the years. Many people use the two terms completely interchangeably. For some gamers they also thoroughly believe that good action gameplay is antithetical to horror and it's primarily because of Resident Evil and Silent Hill too.
>>211635648>>211602292Survival horror itself has some of the most autistic gatekeepers you will ever meet online, particularly on /v/ where it got so bad with their purism at one point that they couldn't agree on a definition so it went from RE1 being the only game that adhered to their strict standards to not even RE1 being able to โโqualifyโโ as survival horror. It became this elusive genre that they both vehemently insisted and believed actually existed but simultaneously no game actually was because there was always too much action or too much ammo for their tastes or if it was like Outlast where you couldn't defend yourself at all suddenly there was too little action. There are a sizeable number of people who don't believe the genre is legitimate at all and they will never refer to a game as one, even the fixed camera ones, and it's because of places like /v/ and Reddit and even some Youtubers who act like they're the only ones with keys to the gate while constantly contradicting themselves and each other.
>>211635569>Just got back from this, solid movie. It does fall into the 28 Weeks trap where the beginning is amazing and the rest of the film doesn't quite hold up but unlike Weeks, it doesn't fall off hard and maintains a consistent level of quality.I am absolutely fine with that. I think it also looks like a really well done film judging from the trailer, like how the scenes are framed/shot.
>>211629708>>211631195Days is one of my favorite films, easily in my top 50. Gonna watch it again before seeing the new one.
>>211631410The scenes of empty landscapes combined with the crappy cameras really does give it a nightmarish dreamlike quality to me, I don't know if that was intentional or not. Also the tunnel scene where they are changing the flat tire is still the most ass-clenching moment I've seen in a film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDbMqG0EObM
>>211636173Interesting thing about that scene, as the car is speeding off you can see the zombies slow down and stop. I always wondered if that was intentional or if it was just a mistake from the extras.
If it's intentional, it shows you the zombies aren't just mindless and are aware of when they can no longer catch someone.
>>211635648It really baffles me that Sony has never done anything more with the Bloodborne IP. It's insanely popular, fans have begged for literally anything, yet they do nothing with it. Even a remaster like they did with Demons Souls would make gajillions.
>>211636258I imagine the Rage virus just kind gives them large bursts of adrenaline whenever they sense there is someone near by but they eventually get gassed and exhausted. Like they could remain still for hours or days until an uninfected person walks by and then suddenly they go into a burst of rage mode, kinda like we see in the church at the beginning.
>>211636742Good slow-burn horror moobie. Would make a nice double feature with Messiah of Evil.
Is there a /hor/ list of films to watch?
>>211638480There's a bunch of lists floating around out there. Here's an 80s horror list. I'm pretty sure an anon made a bunch of updated decade horror lists but I never remember to save em. I've got lists from the 30s-10s, and subgenre lists also.
>>211638606What subgenres you got?
>>211636314IIRC it's both a rights issue but also Sony not thinking it's worth the ROI. Bloodborne didn't actually sell all that well back in the day, it stagnated at 2 million for years and it was only back in 2022 when it was revealed it had sold 7.6 million and most of those sales were heavily discounted copies. Demon's Souls OG sold even less but it was easy enough for Sony execs to decide it was worth the risk to remake and resell the title because it's literally just Dark Souls with a slightly different name which has much stronger brand recognition than BB. Elden Ring was sold as being an open world Dark Souls with involvement from Gurmm which obviously worked out well for them. But it's such a shame because Lance McDonald, the modder behind the 60 FPS patch, has revealed that a native Windows 7 port of BB existed at some point likely used by From themselves when initially developing the game.
Pic related is from a presentation they did I think it was last year where they had the epiphany that maybe they should've gone harder in on capitalizing on their IPs and Bloodborne is nowhere to be seen. Instead, Until Dawn which had one successful game 10 years ago, then a VR spinoff and nothing else was their other horror franchise they decided they wanted to try to capitalize on with TLOU having capsized and only getting remasters and remakes now. I think this shows it's a rights issue more than anything else.
>>211638772>world class franchises>MarathonKek, got me
Saw this one today. Relies a bit too much on mutilation and child abuse to feel uncomfortable rather than scary, but overall a decent flick since crazy white women are the scariest thing of all.
Also enjoyed how the crackhouse ritual VHS footage wasn't a focal point of the story, but something to expand the antagonist's origins. Directors finally realizing not every detail has to be explained and every mystery ruined.
>>211638763Here's a vampire kino list
>>211638718Here's the 70s, let me know if you're interested in any other decades
>>211638772>rights issueAs far as I'm aware, Sony completely control it the IP. They could do whatever they wanted.
This is what a previous Sony exec has said:
>Speaking to Greg Miller on the Kinda Funny Gamescast for the first time since retiring from PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that despite calls for many PlayStation reboots, "Bloodborne has always been the most asked thing.">He shared his own "personal theory" as to why the game hasn't seen a remake, remaster, or even an update yet.>First confirming that because he "left first-party so has no idea what is actually going on", he says, "Miyazaki-san really, really loved Bloodborne and what he created. I think he is interested, but he's so successful, and he's so busy, he cannot do it himself, but he doesn't want anyone else to touch it. The PlayStation team respects his wish.">Yoshida is quick to reaffirm that this is just a "guess and theory" and that he's "not revealing any secret information, to be clear."So, assuming this is true, it seems Sony only want Miyazaki to touch it but Miyazaki is too busy on other stuff.
Other than that, it seems bizarre they invest so much in garbage like Concord and Marathon and not BB. I'd really love to be a fly on the wall in the Sony offices and know what their reasoning is.
>>211638480Watch Lowlifes
Just watch an episode of the Walking Dead and save your money. Its a boring melodrama thats 90% talking and 10% zombies
>>211635514Weird and enjoyable
>>211638772>TLOU It's mind boggling they're still going through with a S3 and shifting the perspective from Ellie to Abby the exact same mistake they made with the games and the ratings already plummeted immediately after Joel's death in the show despite a strong start
>>211639006There's so much kino on this chart it's not even funny. Definitely my favorite decade of film.
>>211635514I thought it was great. The Cronenberg fusion caught me off-guard in a good way because certain horror character archetypes are usually shielded with plot armor. That was not the case this time. Also, she cute
>>211635514A lot of people bully it because
>IS THAT PURPLE? AAAAA IM GOING INSANE!!But it's far from the worst Lovecraft adaptation. You just have to give it a bit of benefit of doubt.
Also, Cage is almost always kino.
Does The Twilight Zone count? I downloaded all 5 seasons yesterday. Never watched it before, just seen/heard some scenes on my dad's TV.
>>211639067I find it hard to believe this is just a case of HONARABU SAMURAI SPIRIT but I guess it does sound like something Japs would do.
Sony also recently took down the PSX style "demake" from itch.io so they haven't forgotten it entirely but it could just as well be another corporation choosing to sit on an IP that they refuse to do anything with just so that no one else can potentially profit or benefit from it in any way like what happened with EA and American McGee's Alice Asylum https://b0tster.itch.io/bbpsx
But it's weid because they didn't even attempt to take down Bloodborne Kart which just had its name changed: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2930160/Nightmare_Kart/
Also, speaking of Lovecraft adaptations, will we ever get a The Mound one?
It's my favourite of his stories and you could really get creative with the mechanical body horror aspect.
I'm honestly surprised no one has touched it.

>>211636258I feel it's intentional. I remember the moment Jim freed Mailer's chains from atop the fence, Mailer sprinted into the house rather than lumber over or try to reach out to Jim. If they have no way of catching their prey, then they don't bother.
>>211640882redpill me on Screamboat
>>211640849But it's kino!
>>211640916The kills really carry the movie, but they're all done comedically. My biggest problem is that the movie is just incredibly dumb. If you can shut your brain off and ignore the setup, it would be enjoyable for most.
>>211635272There's quite a bit of hype for this outside of /hor/.
>put on "The Ugly Stepsister"
>they're speaking in some disgusting foreign eurotrash language and not English
very very disappointed
>>211640435Thank you kindly.
>>211640536>>211640620Indeed that was a terrible run, they should've retake that.
>>211625925Antrum stopping dead in its tracks to show you a barely visible picture of the devil
>>211624870The worst thing he does is betray his soldiers at the end, everything else is harsh but understandable.
>>211639689It's not even the worst TCOOS adaptation. Maybe the negative reviews going in...colored my perception though but honestly I didn't care for it. Cage may normally be kino but he was way too over the top here, where he wasn't being weirdly low-key.
>>211625925The ending of Borderlands.
Being digested alive inside of some inexplicable giant monster. Genuinely felt ill afterwards.
>>211639794Don't know much about BB but maybe since it's so heavily inspired by public domain stuff Sony didn't feel like it was worth going after the kart game as long as they changed the name.
>>211641593Agreed about Cage, he was the worst part of the movie anytime he decided to start going overboard with the wackiness.
>>211641653yes, more so than lowlifes
>>211641847Anything is more worth watching that lowlifes.
>>211641653Yeah, very creepy movie didn't like the ending though
>>211641653It's one of the very few trauma-horror movies that I actually like. So, yes, it's worth a watch.
>>211641876yeah, even lowlife is worth more watching than lowlifes
My top 20 2020s /hor/, not ordered.
Last spot was a tossup so I chose Totally Killer since it was a pleasant surprise, I expected it to suck and it was actually a good slasher.
>>211630565> He ran the place. He was AAA (Access All Areas). Nobody "allowed" him to do it, he just did because he could.I still donโt get why, knowing sheโs infected, the scientists had no one else watching over her, no guards or anything. Itโs just retarded.
> In fact that dumb scientist broad didn't tell anyone, which is how the virus ended up spreading to France at the end.Why the fuck didnโt they?
>>211642380why no Nosferatu?
totally killer is about as mediocre and soulless as a movie can be until studio executives can actually just generate movies with AI
>>211642650Haven't seen it. I haven't seen the Herzog remake either, only the original.
I'm not a 2020s superfan or anything so there's plenty of popular movies I haven't seen. If I watched 50 more movies then the list would probably have a few changes.
Is 1.66:1 the most kino of aspect ratios, especially for newer movies?
>>211641653It's pretty good despite the main character being unlikable. Very well made overall.

>>211640882Glad someone else liked Borderline. It wasn't amazing or anything but it was fun. I'll watch anything Samara Weaving is in and the French girl was also cute(I like insane women)
>>211643275Nta but killing off Frenchie before she became too much was a good choice because it makes it easier to keep loving her
>>211640882>>211643233>>211643275>BorderlineThis looks fun
>insane womanSeems like this might be a twist from a glance at the wikipedia, but idc because I'm sold. Adding it to my watchlist.
>>211643391It is, I went in blind and was really impressed by how 90s it was, felt like something I might have watched back then
>>211638850Walked out of the theater the other day about 40 mins into this. I donโt think Iโll ever check back in with these guys. Theyโre now blacklisted with Mike Flanagan & Ti West.
>>211643553>Ti West>blacklistedThe Sacrament is great
>>211643553>>211643614>Ti WestThat reminds me, now that you know who is on vacation and this is safe to discuss, is X actually worth watching? I'm interested in Pearl.
>>211643275She was super cute. Chris Evans is lucky.
>>211643793Pearl is the best from the trilogy. It's also chronologically first, so you can watch it without X. I liked X, but it's nothing great or special. Maybe a 6/10. Ignore the ideologues, they're mentally ill.
>>211643862Seems really annoying
>>211644030You should watch the movie before passing judgment.

>>211643945Thank you anon.
>>211642380>MalignantAn extremely funny so-bad-it's-good movie.
>In a Violent NatureOne good kill scene.
>Smile 2Worse than the original, it's egregious, senseless, and needlessly nihilistic.
>BarbarianThe first half was better than the second. It started off as a real horror movie and then made a turn to a horror-comedy direction that didn't work.
>>211640278Gotcha, glad to hear. That guy is annoying lol sometimes I wonder if we're the only two people from /film/ also posting here.
>>211643793I liked X the most but i'm a 70s shill
You can definitely watch Pearl first or alone like
>>211643945 said, but I like X more, and I think Maxxxine was more disappointing because of the strengths of X. Maxxxine is the strongest soundtrack though, so if you're into that it's worth a watch but i think otherwise it's just for completionists
>>211643793I liked Pearl the best. Maxxxine was a fucking mess.
>>211644221I thought they were fun.
it's really surprisng how leftist is the whole horror in general and it's fanbase, I genuinely can'y think of any right wing coded horror
>>211644477Oh and if you do watch x and pearl you should probably do X first
>>211644559They really fumbled Maxxxine because they had a great set up for it
>>211642380>>211642746Brandon Cronenberg's Possessor is kino but your mileage may vary with Infinity Pool it's a love it or hate it type of movie
Would also recommend The Empty Man and Black Phone and Speak No Evil (Danish version if you can find it) and Exhuma
The Pope's Exorcist is also great dumb fun as long as you go in with the right mindset and understanding that it's not going to be a hardcore experience
>>211644477>>211644559>>211644644Thank you anons, I love slashers and psycho girls so hopefully I will enjoy them.
Most people seemed disappointed in Maxxxine but I have seen fans of it, if I like the other two I'll watch it.
>>211644666>PossessorReally enjoyed.
>Infinity PoolReally enjoyed as well, maybe this should have been the 20th spot desu.

>The Black PhoneEnjoyed.
>Speak No EvilHaven't seen yet.
>ExhumaHaven't seen yet.
>The Pope's ExorcistEnjoyed.
I've still got some good shit to watch in the future.
>>211644666Checked
Empty Man and Black Phone were both really good. Empty Man specifically has one of the spoopiest scenes I've seen in a horror movie in a long time
>>211644716I'd have liked Maxxxine more if I didn't have hopes for it. It's not a bad movie, it's just it's following two that built hopes it could be insanely strong and it's not, it's just good
>>211644906>I'd have liked Maxxxine more if I didn't have hopes for it.Noted for when I watch it.
I try to go in with low expectations anyway.

>>211651329Barbarian is liked here it's just npm who hates it
Decided upon the subgenre/theme list that I want to do for October. Last year I barely watched anything so I want to make this one special and actually watch a ton of shit.
I'll watch them in an order close to this.

>>211652001Yes. Good little basic supernatural thriller.
Erik and Bobby were the soul of Bloodlines
Great chemistry between them
>>211652336Someone described some schizo montages being used here and there. I love it when Danny goes wild mode and does crazy stuff like that.
>>211652336I'll just assume that's still because tons of those critics were invited to the movie premiere and they're still high on the excitement of that event. At this point I just hope that the lows just aren't as low as 28 Weeks.
>>211652201I'm a leaf, but I'm going to assume that like America you can't watch it until Thursday afternoon.
>>211652001This is another one of those prestige horror films from the 90s and early 2000s that were marketed as a thriller in an attempt to gain more recognition by critics and awards shows but it's definitely a horror film too. Michelle Pfeiffer really regretted turning down the role of Clarice Starling because she didn't like that evil won in that movie which is why you can also find her in Wolf along with Jack Nicholson from the same era.
>>211652242Don't give up hope just yet.
>>211652462I will always maintain that Coomer would've been the best casting for Suzy in that shitty Suspiria remake. 28 Years will likely be one of the best horrors of 2025 so it makes sense she stars in it.

i expected a mediocre bmovie but its the US counterpart to gojira, quite literally and i like it more. gojira peters out towards the third act, gets slightly boring but THEM! stays on track with great pacing. good double feature for next time! also, monster movies are perfect summer horror films. i cant pinpoint why.
>>211652921Shame about that Alone in the Dark game she starred in honestly. It's just such a cursed franchise despite the fact that without it Resident Evil wouldn't even exist

I watched both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later at the cinema for the rerelease. 28 Days Later looked fucking AWFUL. I know they have a 4k release later this year but it is well known they used early digital cameras and the rerelease was blurry and messy, especially the kino shots of empty London.
>>21162690328 Days Later rerelease had a tease scene for 28 Years Later. In it the two characters who went to the mainland see a herd of deer (bad CGI deer) but then go into a house and find a man strung up who is infected and he pressures the boy into killing the man. Aside from the deer, it was an alright scene.
>>211654831I wouldn't know lol, but most of them were recs from you guys so if you think I'm not watching the right movies then it's your fault.
>>211625925The scene in Henry where the guy pulls over to help them with their car and Otis shoots him to death is scary.
Also the scene in The Town That Dreaded Sundown where the Phantom creeps up behind a guy relaxing and shoots him through the window of his house.
