It felt like the film was somehow rushed despite the nearly 5 year gap between sequels. Shame too since the set up was decent and there were still novel ideas like immune and smarter infected, they just had no clue what to do with the second and third acts.

He was, but that was the correct thing to be. He was put in charge after Major Cooper got killed, and the scientists said Cooper was a lot nicer. So, naturally, Rhodes takes over and just lays down the law to minimize casualties, and tells the scientists that they need to show that their work has some value to make up for the human cost it's been inflicting.

She did tell a bunch of people, her superior and the sniper. That's why she was convincing him to get the kids off the island. But yeah she didn't forsee the danger of him getting bitten and carrying it. Which I think is fair, it requires foresight to see the chain happening.

What I thought was strange was the firebomb/exteriminatus shit. I mean, they didn't blow the country up before why do it now.

Literally the only thing Rhodes did wrong was trying to flee a well stocked heavily fortified compound, especially since he would need a pilot that he was heavily antagonistic towards.

Yeah this was a bit of a fatal flaw. Basically they made a plot where the MC was being passed forward like a virus, and as each one died it was passed onto another. And by the end you're supposed to come around to the kids being the MCs, but it's like eh whatever.
If they had just had Poots instead of two of them it might have been stronger.

How about that, it's time for another pointless post with my brief thoughts on what I just watched.

>Borderline (2025)
Absolute must watch IMO. This was just a pleasure to watch and hits the comedy parts just right. Alba Baptista is fantastic as Penny and was honestly the best part of the movie, which is saying something. Weaving lost her fake American accent twice just a tad that it's noticeable in 2 scenes and I had a good chuckle for it. Nicholson plays a crazy man so well with good comedic flare, just throwing himself into it. Also, it's just great when you can see his dad in him at times.
>Exeter (2015)
It's good, but not great. The twist reveal can be seen coming, but the ride was enjoyable. It did have some moments where it drags and none of the characters are likeable. Still would recommend it gets a watch because it's not a bad movie by any means.
>Hippopotamus (2018)
Not horror, but a drama-thriller. It's a 50/50 movie because of how slow it is. Yes, it's one of those movies where even at the end, you're not sure what was true and who was right or wrong. It's a good movie to have a debate about on those things, but it's definitely not a movie everyone is going to enjoy.

Just got back from this, solid movie. It does fall into the 28 Weeks trap where the beginning is amazing and the rest of the film doesn't quite hold up but unlike Weeks, it doesn't fall off hard and maintains a consistent level of quality.

It's basically a coming of age adventure story with zombies, the most interesting thing it does compared to other zombie flicks is that it actually tries to worldbuild with post-apocalyptic isolated Britian and the evolution of the Rage Virus. For that you probably shouldn't have watched the trailers because some scenes are framed to subvert your expectations on what you'd come to expect from the Infected of the series.

There are just so many great horror games some of which were quite revolutionary for gaming as a whole too but most of them aren't commonly thought of as being horror because of one particular franchise.

I love Resident Evil and without it I don't think horror in gaming would've been considered a thing at all, but I also dislike how 'survival horror' has completely muddied the waters and has skewed people's understanding of what it actually means, particularly the fixed camera tank control ones. I remember coming across some Reddit thread a few years ago asking if people considered Bloodborne a horror game and some of the answers said no because 'you're too powerful' but other posts correctly pointed out how they were obviously confusing horror with survival horror and I've seen that happen a lot myself over the years. Many people use the two terms completely interchangeably. For some gamers they also thoroughly believe that good action gameplay is antithetical to horror and it's primarily because of Resident Evil and Silent Hill too.

Survival horror itself has some of the most autistic gatekeepers you will ever meet online, particularly on /v/ where it got so bad with their purism at one point that they couldn't agree on a definition so it went from RE1 being the only game that adhered to their strict standards to not even RE1 being able to β€œβ€qualify”” as survival horror. It became this elusive genre that they both vehemently insisted and believed actually existed but simultaneously no game actually was because there was always too much action or too much ammo for their tastes or if it was like Outlast where you couldn't defend yourself at all suddenly there was too little action. There are a sizeable number of people who don't believe the genre is legitimate at all and they will never refer to a game as one, even the fixed camera ones, and it's because of places like /v/ and Reddit and even some Youtubers who act like they're the only ones with keys to the gate while constantly contradicting themselves and each other.

I am absolutely fine with that. I think it also looks like a really well done film judging from the trailer, like how the scenes are framed/shot.

The scenes of empty landscapes combined with the crappy cameras really does give it a nightmarish dreamlike quality to me, I don't know if that was intentional or not. Also the tunnel scene where they are changing the flat tire is still the most ass-clenching moment I've seen in a film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDbMqG0EObM

Interesting thing about that scene, as the car is speeding off you can see the zombies slow down and stop. I always wondered if that was intentional or if it was just a mistake from the extras.
If it's intentional, it shows you the zombies aren't just mindless and are aware of when they can no longer catch someone.

I imagine the Rage virus just kind gives them large bursts of adrenaline whenever they sense there is someone near by but they eventually get gassed and exhausted. IIRC it's both a rights issue but also Sony not thinking it's worth the ROI. Bloodborne didn't actually sell all that well back in the day, it stagnated at 2 million for years and it was only back in 2022 when it was revealed it had sold 7.6 million and most of those sales were heavily discounted copies. Demon's Souls OG sold even less but it was easy enough for Sony execs to decide it was worth the risk to remake and resell the title because it's literally just Dark Souls with a slightly different name which has much stronger brand recognition than BB. Elden Ring was sold as being an open world Dark Souls with involvement from Gurmm which obviously worked out well for them. But it's such a shame because Lance McDonald, the modder behind the 60 FPS patch, has revealed that a native Windows 7 port of BB existed at some point likely used by From themselves when initially developing the game.

Pic related is from a presentation they did I think it was last year where they had the epiphany that maybe they should've gone harder in on capitalizing on their IPs and Bloodborne is nowhere to be seen. Instead, Until Dawn which had one successful game 10 years ago, then a VR spinoff and nothing else was their other horror franchise they decided they wanted to try to capitalize on with TLOU having capsized and only getting remasters and remakes now. I think this shows it's a rights issue more than anything else.

Saw this one today. Relies a bit too much on mutilation and child abuse to feel uncomfortable rather than scary, but overall a decent flick since crazy white women are the scariest thing of all.
Also enjoyed how the crackhouse ritual VHS footage wasn't a focal point of the story, but something to expand the antagonist's origins. Directors finally realizing not every detail has to be explained and every mystery ruined.

As far as I'm aware, Sony completely control it the IP. They could do whatever they wanted.

This is what a previous Sony exec has said:

>Speaking to Greg Miller on the Kinda Funny Gamescast for the first time since retiring from PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that despite calls for many PlayStation reboots, "Bloodborne has always been the most asked thing."
>He shared his own "personal theory" as to why the game hasn't seen a remake, remaster, or even an update yet.
>First confirming that because he "left first-party so has no idea what is actually going on", he says, "Miyazaki-san really, really loved Bloodborne and what he created. I think he is interested, but he's so successful, and he's so busy, he cannot do it himself, but he doesn't want anyone else to touch it. The PlayStation team respects his wish."
>Yoshida is quick to reaffirm that this is just a "guess and theory" and that he's "not revealing any secret information, to be clear."

So, assuming this is true, it seems Sony only want Miyazaki to touch it but Miyazaki is too busy on other stuff.
Other than that, it seems bizarre they invest so much in garbage like Concord and Marathon and not BB. I'd really love to be a fly on the wall in the Sony offices and know what their reasoning is.

Sony also recently took down the PSX style "demake" from itch.io so they haven't forgotten it entirely but it could just as well be another corporation choosing to sit on an IP that they refuse to do anything with just so that no one else can potentially profit or benefit from it in any way like what happened with EA and American McGee's Alice Asylum https://b0tster.itch.io/bbpsx

But it's weid because they didn't even attempt to take down Bloodborne Kart which just had its name changed: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2930160/Nightmare_Kart/

The Pope's Exorcist is also great dumb fun as long as you go in with the right mindset and understanding that it's not going to be a hardcore experience

>Call an alarm after finding dead bodies.
>Oh we have a virus that can spread within 10-20 seconds of infection, I know, why not push 100s of people into the same unsecure parking garage.
If you simply locked people down were they were, they would easily keep control of the situation.

I watched both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later at the cinema for the rerelease. 28 Days Later looked fucking AWFUL. I know they have a 4k release later this year but it is well known they used early digital cameras and the rerelease was blurry and messy, especially the kino shots of empty London.

>>211626903
28 Days Later rerelease had a tease scene for 28 Years Later. In it the two characters who went to the mainland see a herd of deer (bad CGI deer) but then go into a house and find a man strung up who is infected and he pressures the boy into killing the man. Aside from the deer, it was an alright scene.
